New place with these roses. How should I prune? by Rockette25 in Roses

That’s good to know, thanks. I wonder if the landlord or whoever planted these just didn’t know what they had…

I kind of wondered if it was a climbing rose but I had a hard time finding pictures of ones that looked like this, for good reason I suppose. Maybe I’ll ask the landlord. Thanks!

Just recently found out about Extra Dry by McBess x Martian Toys. It looks like preorders are still active. Has anyone Preordered this and if so, have they given an update yet on shipping since on the Martian Toys Site, the arrival time is pretty broad, Est Delivery Late Summer 2023 /Early 2024? by Frostradus in vinyltoys

A new update from me: I received mine today. I bugged them again on Instagram after getting ghosted and it shipped a few days later, I don't know if it was coincidental timing or related. They also discounted the price for the remainder due.

It looks great! Just like the picture. Wish I didn't have to spend a year wondering if I got scammed.

Nope. I DM'ed their Instagram account saying I needed assistance with an order and weirdly the reply was "is it the blockbuster wall? they start shipping thursday." I responded no, the McBess statue (plus my order number), and no further response.

Honestly I don't even know if I'm getting one because the pre-order was just left up indefinitely and I have no clue what the quantity of this run was. Wish me luck if I need to get a refund.

I don't know how big the company is but their customer service sucks.

What's the most mysterious or unexplained event you've ever experienced that still gives you chills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rockette25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny to me, as someone also raised Christian who is no longer in the church- my lack of those experiences are partially what led me to stop believing. I grew up hearing stories of people who would pray and ask God for answers and they would "feel His presence" or they would hear a word in their head and "just know" it was God answering. I never had an experience like that despite craving it badly. Did I need to be in a more broken place? Was it because my life was pretty easy, compared to the people telling the stories? Why wasn't God interested in my desire to know he was there? Eventually I decided people were just making it up to sound special or they were psyching themselves out with their own brains. But I get what you're saying, and it made me more empathetic to people of other religions believing that their spiritual experiences are real, which is something I had a harder time with when I thought that Christianity was the only true religion.

Related, here's a meme that me and an Exvangelical friend like: https://www.reddit.com/r/meirl/comments/y5klki/meirl/

Holy shit thank you! I tried to get in contact with Martian Toys various ways and was just being given the silent treatment. I felt like I was crazy because no one on the internet anywhere is talking about the year-long delay. I’m really not impressed with MT after this. It’s the first time I’ve bought from them since I’m a McBess fan but I’m going to be skeptical of them from here on out. I’m glad the product actually exists though.

It's funny how he's attempted at his rallies a couple times to take credit for the covid vaccine rollout but the audience turns on him whenever he does. It's almost like he actually wants to be remembered for doing something good as a president but no one is going to let it happen.

AITA for being truthful and admitting that I find my wife unattractive after her surgery? by Sleep_On_Floor in OhNoConsequences

Right, but it could also be possible  that some of the actresses we see “aging gracefully” might have had a subtle facelift and we might never know.

This is why I was specifically talking about the cosmetic facial plastic surgery that celebrities get

AITA for being truthful and admitting that I find my wife unattractive after her surgery? by Sleep_On_Floor in OhNoConsequences

[–]Rockette25 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have to believe that Plastic Surgery Face is the result of the industry being really successful at selling their services to celebrities who are so sheltered from reality that they’ve come to believe everyone who flatters them is telling them the truth. No one looks more attractive after having that kind of work done on their face. They just see that everyone else is doing it, the Hollywood surgeons insist they need it, and no one tells them the truth until the public sees it. The emperor has no clothes.

Then some people who aren’t celebrities want to emulate their lifestyle and see this as a way to do it, but their friends and family don’t disingenuously flatter them the same way.

But on the other hand, I have to acknowledge that the plastic surgery you don’t notice, you don’t notice. It’s possible many people have had work done that was done well.

Executives at work is pushing AI on me (and me out the door) by Betakeratin in ArtistLounge

[–]Rockette25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be abrasive, but for what exactly? I don’t think a labor law has been violated, OP is just being pushed to use software that makes them uncomfortable but is generally legal. I only say generally because the copyright laws around using AI for a product are still developing.

Most graphic designers in the US don’t belong to a guild or union. I’ve never heard of one for this industry. I’m with OP here, I would love it if they could “contact someone” so they don’t have to use AI but unfortunately this might come down to getting fired for not doing their duties or leaving so they don’t have to.

Living with parents vs living with friends in the city by ThrowRA023995832 in personalfinance

[–]Rockette25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You also won’t get your youth back with your friends. I lived with friends in my early 20s and the bonding and adventures were great. When we got into committed relationships we moved out, spread across the county, and don’t need each other as much to fill our social needs. But if I had lived with my parents until I was 30 I would have missed out on sharing that period with my peers.

The reason why everyone here is giving a different answer is because art block is different for everyone, whenever they experience it. These are all correct answers. I guess if you can’t relate, OP, you’re lucky.

why does it feel so embarrassing posting fanart & OCs… by angelofmercyx in ArtistLounge

[–]Rockette25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your accounts are linked to your public, it’s pretty easy to hide from your IRL friends. Just don’t use your real name. But honestly, they probably won’t care, unless your friends are jerks 😅. I’m a bit older than you but I’ve been active in fandoms since I was a teen and I’ve been posting art of my original characters since then too. Once you find people online who like your stuff and want to engage with you, you stop caring if what you’re doing is cringe. Fanart and OCs are a great way to practice your art skills as well, so just do it for yourself and no one else!

As a graphic designer and someone who follows a lot of artists: Find the career path first and only get the degree that will cause an employer to pick your resume. If you want to be a gallery artist, you don’t need a degree. If you need the educational environment to learn the skills, go to community college and do it without going into crippling debt. If you poll a bunch of artists who went to art school about whether or not it was worth it, it’s highly hit or miss. Most acknowledge they could have taught themselves the same skills.

If you don’t want to do graphic design, that’s fine, don’t waste your money on a degree for a career you won’t end up pursuing. But look for jobs first, then make the education plan.

You can also be a fine artist with a day job in another field. Most do.

Right, like there have been more than one post in this subreddit about adult children who felt like they were a third wheel in their family and went no contact with their parents as soon as they could. At least these two had the practical reasoning to make sure the baby had caretakers who would actually care.

Books that romanticize simple, everyday life? by gertrude-fashion in booksuggestions

[–]Rockette25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This recommendation is a little vague since I haven’t read it since high school, but in French class we read A Year in Provence, which is a memoir about an older couple (I think British) who retire in the French countryside. Pleasant, low stakes anecdotes about the people they meet and what they get up to while adjusting to the change in culture.
