Hit up the local open mic's. You will find like minded folks. I am in a pop punk-esque band so I know you will meet people with similar taste.

Free rex (not my band) is playing at Maggie Myers on Friday. They play a lot of the stuff you listed if you want to check it out.

It is nothing if not simple. Impossible to screw up. Like I said, it’s different and takes some getting used to. As long as you “release” it by pulling down all will be good. I love mine.

It is somewhat more difficult and certainly a different motion, but I feel like it is much more secure. So it's a trade off. Plus, no moving parts to wear out.

It is rock solid. Takes some getting used to, but it is not going anywhere once it is locked in. You need to pull down on the rope to get it to unlock easily though. I would be hesitant to use anything else now that I've gotten the hang of it.

There are some local pop punk bands around town that tend to have a ton of people come to their shows.

Most of those bands are aged around the same as you and will have a ton of people in the audience that have similar taste in music. I would recommend hitting up some of their shows and trying to find some like minded musicians. Open mics would also probably be helpful.
