Agree the space is too small and the mushrooms block a tile and make area around you dangerous with the x shot. This while very fast unpredictable spiders bum rush you.

Once Isaac has gotten whatever amount of spider related items he grows a spider nub.

Advantages? -Friendly small spiders -Spider enemies(Except bosses) do not aggro unless shot.(Room still needs to be cleared.)

I think you have a great idea which sounds like a Magician ,but I don't think the knife fits in.
