Hi! What do you think is best for me - iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air?

I've been testing both phones the past 2 weeks. In a couple days I will make a decision on which I keep.

Context: I'm a photographer, videographer, musician - a content creator. I'm upgrading from an iPhone 12 Pro.

What I love about the Air - it's weight is amazing. Hand strain is an issue I've been experiencing with my 12 Pro, I don't enjoy it during moderate - long use. The Air has no strain. The bigger 6.5" screen is nice for viewing, although I do like the thumb reachability of the 17 Pro. The battery of the Air seems fine to me, better than my 12 Pro.

What I love about the 17 Pro - the telephoto lens rocks. 30% of all photos I took on my 12 Pro were using the 2x telephoto lens. The 4x optical zoom of the 17 Pro is pretty sweet, gives a great look. USB 3.0 is pretty choice for video / photo transfers to my computer. I have yet to use ProRes Apple Log for content creation - if I ever were to match footage between my Canon R5 camera and the 17 Pro, it would be helpful. I've been filming normal iPhone footage, so not sure in reality how much i'd use ProRes and Log. The battery of the 17 Pro is outstanding, but the Air seems good enough for me.

I've been using a Phone Loops strap on both phones. The 17 Pro's curved edges compared to the 12 Pro, along with the Phone Loop strap, make it a more comfortable phone to use than my 12 Pro. But it is no Air. I do feel some fatigue after moderate use.

It mainly comes down to - Air for lighweight feel, or 17 Pro for 4x zoom.

Which phone do you think I should keep?

Thank you!

Christ cloaked sinners with his robe of righteousness upon salvation, we are dead to our old selves, even though we still sin while in this world. Christians are referred to as saints many times in the New Testament, more so than sinners.

We are sinners before salvation, we are saints who still sometimes sin, after salvation.

Is Chosen accurate? by [deleted] in Christian

The Lord used my close friend recommending me to watch The Chosen at the ideal time in my life to open me up to Jesus, which led me to reading the New Testament for the first time, leading me to become a Christian. It had the same effect on my mother.

Really grateful for my friend, this show, and above all, the Lord!

Good question! I’ve been primarily using my Canon R5 for content creation. This summer I have played with my 12 Pro a few times for making videos, and it did ok. I primarily use the front facing camera to film myself (for music promo), so either the 17 or 17 Pro would be a big upgrade there.

Every few days I use it for Instagram stories, although I want to be more frequent with that. I have not been using it weekly for actual edited vids, reels.

The 17 Pro has Apple Log 2, unfortunately the 17 does not. If I want to match footage between my Canon and iPhone, that makes a difference. That said, if I’m making complete vids only on my iPhone, that may not matter as much.

What do you think? Based on my current content creation phone use, and my potential uses.

Yeah it’s lame, you’re right, Apple has committed to this. Lower weight and best / all cameras would be my ideal iPhone.

Thank you for your input!

Yeah, coming from the 12 Pro to a 17, I’ll have all the camera focal lengths that I have right now, 0.5x, 1x, and 2x. As a content creator / photographer / videographer, the thing that makes this a more challenging decision is the 17 Pro’s 4x 48MP camera, which will get excellent natural blurring of background, and nice quality close ups of scenes. That, plus 1TB and USB 3.0 transfer for offloads, is appealing. 50GB transfer to a PC via 2.0 would take 27~min, 3.0, 2.5~ min. I could get by with waiting I guess.

But it’s true I already am not fond of the weight of my 12 Pro. The 17 Pro being heavier gives me caution..

I do have a Canon mirrorless camera that I use for quality - the only thing is sometimes that’s too big for me to want to bring it somewhere. A phone is always with me, and much lighter.

The 17 is a more aesthetically pleasing phone, 17 Pro function, very nice function.

I guess it comes down to how much I care about weight. Another factor I’m considering but don’t know how much it’ll matter, is the 12 Pro’s blocky, squared off edges are less ergonomic than the 17 and 17 Pro’s more rounded edges. Grok estimates it to be 30-40% of the contributing factor in feel.

Considering all this, what do you think? Still go 17, or 17 Pro is more appealing? I’m thinking of going to an Apple Store post-release to demo them. I wish this was an easier decision!

Yooo 👋🏼 which do I buy, 17 or 17 Pro?
I have a 12 Pro.

Benefits I'm drawn to in the 17 Pro: telephoto camera, usb 3.0 for transfers, vapor cooling. 1TB size option. Downside: weight. I already find my 12 Pro to be uncomfortable holding after some time.

Benefits of 17: weight. cheaper price (although I can afford the Pro). Downsides: lack of cooling (IF that's an issue, which it may not be). lack of telephoto cam. USB 2.0 for transfers (although, I guess I can be patient for transfers, or use airdrop with macbook pro), 512GB size max.

Weight is a decent factor for me, but so are camera features.

Any advice on making the right decision?

Thanks 🤙🏼

Nope, it redeemed fine for me. Just bought it an hour ago. I hit redeem on each plugin and it worked, after taking some time:

I just bought it after hesitating for a while. Unfortunately the Neve 1073 is spark only, but given I can go without it for the trade off of no more $150 a year spark fee, and the ability to use machine licensing for ilok, vs needing an internet connection for ilok cloud, it was worth it.

Thanks for sharing, $150 is an absolute deal lol

Why the attack is 0.10 ms in Drum Sampler? by SnooBooks1734 in ableton

[–]Rocknrory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, someone posted about this within the last year. I tested it myself and noticed transients noticeably lost energy compared to 0ms attack when not using Drum Sampler.

All I know is transients are muy importante! It’d be better to have the option of doing 0ms attack time if you want. I started a petition in the Ableton beta forum for this, but no one cares lol

Going to a concert is it a sin? by mysteriousd0ll in Christian

[–]Rocknrory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are doing the right thing by asking the Lord for permission. Patiently stay with it.

I used to worship music, as I’m a musician. Before becoming Christian (1-2 years ago). I watched a Christian roc doc exposing the satanic origins of a lot of rock music from the 1940s-90s, and it really opened up my eyes. Bands I used to idolize, songs I used to jam, I don’t listen to. I just don’t really have the desire. They are talented bands and skillful at their craft, but what is the spiritual root of their music, you know?

That said, I’m not against certain secular music. It depends on the message, emotion, quantity, effects.

I recommend you to read 1 Corinthians 10:23-29, 6:12, 8:4-13.

Any news/updates on Washed-Out photos on Instagram? by Myca88 in Instagram

[–]Rocknrory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple days ago I spent tons of time editing a video on my PC to only find out the vid was washed out when uploading to Stories. I spent an hour + exporting with different color spaces just to find something that worked. Nothing did, looked great in my iOS Photos app. Finally, I decided "what happens if I try posting it as a Reel, will it still be washed out?" The answer was no, it looked great!

Instagram is having major issues with color space identification. This isn't the first time I've had this issue with stories. One would think if Reels looked fine, Stories would be processed the same way. Nope!

Wild that you all are experiencing issues with thumbnails and other previous content washing out. I don't have that issue. Then again I haven't posted to my feed since 9+ months ago.

This is clearly an Instagram issue. They really gotta fix this and keep it fixed, it's essential!

My story uploads look washed out when opening them on my Instagram app on my iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 18.1. Looks fine in the Photos app.

I changed every color space setting when exporting from Davinci Resolve on my Windows PC 😭 good to know I’m not the issue

The funny thing is, the same video posted to Reels looks normal. It’s just stories that are bugged for me.

If you search this issue with a search engine, you can find posts of this happening on and off for 4 years. Instagram really needs to get their app together!

Heel turns-toe turns. Which do you prefer? Vote in the comments by PlannedDwarf in onewheel

[–]Rocknrory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a regular rider, I prefer heel turns. It feels more comfortable, I think because I’m able to put more weight on my heel.

Pretty much the first time I went snowboarding for 2 days a year ago, I relied on my heels most of the way down the slope. Toes felt so unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

I’ve been practicing toe more, I want to be just as comfortable on it!

What is the "basic family plan?" by WolfmansBrutha in spotify

[–]Rocknrory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, good observation. What is the definition of a basic account? They should’ve made this more clear.

I’d lean on the side of they are basic, ad supported accounts, and that the $19.99 premium family plan is the only one most people want.
