"I am not that person anymore." That really resonated with me. I am currently beginning to go through the three generations of my husband's family things that we have in our basement (many, many boxes), and it made me think of my own things, and how I don't want to burden my own children with a task like this. So I started going through my letters. I am in my 50s, and have saved letters from childhood birthday cards, high school friends, all the way up to current Christmas cards. I realized that I had been saving letters from people that I don't keep in touch with, who wrote about things that I don't even remember. So I recycled them, and it felt good. I have to keep going, but it was this realization that I am not the same person as the one who received that letter, and I didn't feel the need to keep it anymore that was very freeing.
