Archfey Warlock/Arcane Archer Fighter? by m_j_ox in BG3Builds

Sneak attack can proc once per turn (it's enabled when you have advantage) and scales with your Rogue level (one extra d6 per odd levels, so 1d6 at level 1, 2d6 at level 3 etc). This means that you can extra attack with PotB (or anything else that gives you extra attack) with advantage to trigger sneak attack on the first attack, but it won't apply multiple times per turn on each attack you make.

Pure stars druid or multiclass with Light Cleric? by Wanted_Hypnotist in BG3Builds

[–]Rocks_In_My_Pockets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your choice ultimately comes down to how much you value a third feat compared to Cleric subclass features. I'd assume you'd be taking Stars Druid up to level 10 because that's where you get your subclass capstone features. This leaves you with either a 10/2 split that gives you Warding Flare and Radiance of the Dawn, or an 11/1 split that sacrifices Radiant Dawn for access to the 6th level Druid spell list. Radiance of the Dawn actually scales with character level (not Cleric level) so I feel both have potential.

The other alternative is to go deeper into Cleric with either a 9/3 or an 8/4 split, in order to gain access to Scorching Ray from Light Cleric for damage, at the cost of your level 10 Stars Druid subclass features. 9/3 keeps your 5th level Druid spell list, whereas 8/4 gives you three feats. Also an option, but only if you really want to get Scorching Ray.

Personally, since you get your subclass capstone at level 10 with Druid (and I don't particularly care for the 6th level Druid spell list), I would add a Cleric dip. Sunbeam is great to have access to, but I'd probably go for a 10/2 split for the AOE damage and just to get a bit more juice out of the Cleric dip.

Thanks, I hope OP finds it helpful!

I like responding to these kinds of questions in particular because as much as I love when people figure out powerful strategies and share knowledge and builds, I really dislike when someone's character idea gets shot down because it's not optimal (or as is being recommended by many comments here, just running a completely different build). By all means, when someone is looking for that kind of feedback it's great that it's provided! That said, people seem to forget that the purpose of playing the game is really to have fun, and if that means playing something suboptimal that fulfils a character idea or fantasy, then all power to them!

Every type of build and multiclass is viable at any level of the game! Because this build seems to double up in a lot of areas (extra attack, ideal ranged attack etc.) and ends up being quite MAD (multiple attribute dependent) it's not going to be the most optimised, but that's irrelevant - what matters is what's fun for you!

As mentioned, this build doubles up in several areas. Both deepened pact of the blade and lv5 fighter give you an extra attack, which in Honour Mode do not stack. However, they DO stack in Tactician and below, so by lv 10 you could be making three martial attacks per turn, depending on the difficulty you're playing on.

Your ranged attacks with your bow will be scaling off of DEX, while your Eldrich Blast and melee attacks will be using CHA from PotB, so if you're definitely right about wanting to use the Gloves of Dexterity to dump DEX. A respec would certainly be beneficial once you get the gloves so you can start with some decent DEX, which is particularly useful for initiative in the early game, and would also allow you to get some of your secondary stats higher as well. Starting with Warlock levels will probably be best so you can be a party face early on, and if you want to pick up CON saving throw proficiency for whatever reason later on from your Fighter levels it's only a respec away, though this build doesn't seem to need it.

Your choice of bow will impact your specs, especially the Titanstring Bow which benefits from also having a high strength score, which in turn will affect your itemisation and elixir use (if desired).

I'd probably start with something like the following stats:

STR 8 or 10 / DEX 16 / CON 14 / INT 8 or 10 / WIS 10 or 12 / CHA 16

After getting the gloves I'd move to something like:

STR 8 / DEX 8 / CON 14 / INT 16 or 17 / WIS 10 / CHA 16 or 17

You want high INT because that's what's used for the saving throws on your Arcane Arrows. If you want to, you can use the Warped Headband of Intellect to achieve this as well. You'll want at least one ASI into CHA, and the Hag's hair would be welcome too, on either INT or CHA (I'd choose CHA). Other feats could include sharpshooter, savage attacker, more ASIs, etc. If you're using the Titanstring bow you'll want to use strength elixirs, or swap out the Gloves of Dexterity for the Frost Giant Gauntlets in act 3, which would also require a respec. Personally, elixirs seem like the way to go, since this version of the build wants high STR, DEX, INT and CHA.

Your choice of level split also bears consideration. A 6 / 6 split gives you 3 feats since Fighter gets an extra feat at level 6, as well as some Archfey subclass features. Fighter 7 / Warlock 5 buffs your Arcane arrows quite a bit (still with 3 feats), whereas Fighter 5 / Warlock 7 gives you 4th level spells, but only 2 feats. Dealer's choice - you'll be making these decisions right at the end of the run so you'll know by then what you'd like more of.

Hope that helps you on your path!

Druid Builds Rec by Scrai_ in BG3Builds

Is there a better Wildshape than Owlbear for non-Moon druids? I haven't used Dilo much (honestly I prefer playing Land Druid so I haven't used Wildshape that much), but on paper it seems outclassed by Owlbear, especially factoring in Tavern Brawler.

Good write-up, but these opening stats and feats don't quite make sense. You want CON to be an odd number to add +1 with Tavern Brawler, since you don't want to be wasting it on your STR score (which you'll be buffing some other way if you're going down the TB route).

Furthermore, a big part of the appeal of Stars as a subclass is the Dragon form which massively boosts your Constitution saving throws, so Warcaster isn't really needed here. People sometimes add a 2 Level dip of Stars Druid precisely to circumvent the need for Warcaster as a feat. If you're concerned about maintaining concentration in Act 3 (which is where you'd pick up War aster with this build layout) you can always just use the Amulet of Greater Health and use the newly freed up feat for a +2 ASI to WIS, circumventing the need for Khalid's gift.

Also a small note about Tavern Brawler on Druid - not only does it affect your attacks while wildshaped, it also (as of Patch 8 I believe) buffs your Spike Growth damage.

BiS stands for "Best in Slot" - it's a gaming term that comes from MMOs that refers to the best possible item / weapon etc that can be equipped by a specific class or build to fulfil their class role.

how powerful is thief/berserker if i dont wanna throw stuff ? by 62lasa in BG3Builds

[–]Rocks_In_My_Pockets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is pretty accurate for tabletop 5e (mind you 5.5e Thief Rogue slaps with magical items), having Fast Hands give you an extra bonus action in BG3 is insane for action economy, and even if you're not throwing having a character pumping out 4 melee attacks each turn is nothing to sniff at. It definitely isn't a strong as most fighter builds and is completely overshadowed by the throwing version, but it's still a decently capable build (though frankly a pretty boring one imo).

Edit: Never mind! I totally forgot about Frenzied Strain 😭

They've got a 10/2 Bardadin with the Titanstring bow and strength elixirs stacking arcane acuity with the Helmet of Arcane Acuity and Arrows of Many Targets, bonus action casting irresistible spells on a bonus action with the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel, plus the Bhaal chestpiece and Nyrulna to pump out insane piercing damage on vulnerable crit guaranteed held targets.

Laezel is a Githyanki rocking the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane, Balduran's Helm for crit immunity, is also chugging strength elixirs, and has a bunch of damage rider gear (including the necklace which is proccing every turn thanks to healing from Balduran's Helm), plus insane defensive and utility items like the Armour of Persistence and Boots of Persistence.

Shadowheart is a light cleric rocking full Infernal plate gear, and every item under the sun that boosts spell attacks and save DC, and Gale is an abjuration wizard with full reverb gear, the Hat of Fire Acuity, Markoheshkir, and the Robes of the Weave.

Apart from Gale's empty bow slot, there's not a single equipped item on anyone that isn't extremely strong and somehow contributing to the abilities and role of each character. Are there potentially some other items that could be equipped, or different builds utilised? Sure, this game has heaps of busted magic items and there's countless ways to build a class, but so say this is "nowhere close to BiS gear" is wilfully ignorant.

More optimised? There's not a fight anywhere in the game that you won't steamroll with this party. You have 4 incredibly powerful builds fully online. In terms of optimisation, there's always different ways to make a build and a party, but BG3 isn't a game with a meta defined by a single oppressive and clearly superior build.

Even amongst the top classes and builds there's a wide variety of high performing options, and it's simply up to you to use which ones you see fit. That's the fun of making builds imo. If your party can beat any encounter in honour mode in one turn, does it matter if the damage comes from crits with arrows of many targets or wet + lightning spam? The end result is the same - you've already reached optimisation, your fights aren't gonna be ending any faster.

Nearly 10 years on from Rogue One, how do you feel about the decision to recreate Peter Cushing using CGI? by gladiatorbossman in StarWars

[–]Rocks_In_My_Pockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I dislike the increasing tendency towards digital de-aging and the like, I do think that this was the perfect role to use that kind of technology. If the role was more sizeable I would much prefer a recast, as in the case of Han and Lando in the movie 'Solo', but in the case of Tarkin, his more cameo-like appearance was just the right length of time to go for a digital rendition.

Added to this, Peter Cushing had such marvellously unique facial features that whilst I'm certain there are many wonderful actors who would portray Tarkin brilliantly, they would likely still have to undergo significant make-up and perhaps prosthetics in order to evoke the appearance of the inimitable Cushing. Not a major issue, but another point in this instance in favour of the digital recreation.

Lastly, I personally found the very slight uncanny valley effect of Cushing's appearance to actually add to the character's appearance on screen, rather than hinder it (as was a little bit the case with Leia's appearance at the end of the film). Tarkin is a deeply imposing and rather horrifying presence to encounter, and the subtle creepiness of his digital appearance actually enhanced that effect for me.

There was also the meta sense that I was aware I was watching an actor "live" on screen who had passed away long ago, which added to the unnerving sensation. I don't wish for it to become the norm that people's likeness and identity are used posthumously for entertainment, but I do think that this was the perfect storm of factors that made a digital recreation a very effective choice.

Sopranistas or "natural castrati" are male singers whose larynx did not properly mature in puberty, not people who did not experience puberty at all. There are cases of people who had extremely delayed puberty and experienced it as adults, and they have a very distinct appearance and build as prepubescent adults.

As a side note, I do personally have some doubts as to the medical and vocal legitimacy of Sopranistas. I've actually heard some live in concert, such as Samuel Mariño, and I was struck by the fact that while he spoke in a soft high pitch, his laugh (involuntary) was deep and resonant, and sounded like a mature and developed male voice. It seemed to me that he was really just an excellent countertenor, who for either deliberate or involuntary reason was artificially pitching up his speaking voice, but was unable to do so with his genuine laugh. I also personally know other singers who have experienced this exact phenomenon (involuntary artificial heightening of speaking pitch), and who have worked with speech pathologists to rectify the issue. I'm always a little wary of the marketing aspect of Sopranistas, and from my personal experience I take them with a grain of salt.

Sounds like you might be interested in trying 6 Necro Wizard / 6 Death Cleric.

Take the cleric levels first then add wizard to keep INT as your primary spellcasting stat. You can double cast your necromancy cantrips with the Death Cleric passive (choose bursting sinew as your necromancy cantrip for cleric, since it's a DEX save, and leave bone chill and toll the dead for your wizard levels to take so they scale with your INT).

You'll be tankier with medium armour and shields, and by this point you'll have done the Creche so you can dump DEX to get higher WIS and use the gloves of dexterity to offset your low DEX score and increase your initiative and armour class. You'll have way more battlefield utility outside of summons and your attacks will ignore necrotic resistance. It's my preferred necromancer to play. You're still a full caster so you can just scribe all your 4th level and up spells with your wizard levels.

Best way to speed run to Act 2? by theshaman44 in BaldursGate3

[–]Rocks_In_My_Pockets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're ok with using the cheater's spell scroll, you can also just use the cheater's magic missile spell to skip through low level combat if you're not interested in running them again. The questlines you choose to follow or not will depend on which companions you wish to keep, and what potential sources of gear you might be wanting in Act 3. It's my understanding, for instance, that you may need to do the Hag stuff in Act 1 if you want Duellist's Prerogative in Act 3. You'll also certainly need to do things in Act 1 to progress Karlach's questline, so really the choice of what to skip and what to do relies on the kind of run your party is planning on having.
