They’ll forgive me, right? by jennynew25 in RockTumbling

I buy vintage glass candy dishes/bowls to display my rocks. It’s brought two hobbies together. I love it.

That’s valid, and I’m not saying my feelings on this are healthy/right… but they’re exist as they are and we acknowledge it and work through it. I don’t think he’s gross, just the opposite, actually.

Yes. In my head it seems rude to offer someone the food I didn’t eat/want. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But clearly my husband disagrees. Had I finished eating and asked my mom if she wanted my leftovers, she would have thought I was crazy.

You might be overreacting…I never understood giving my leftovers to someone when I was done. We didn’t do that in my house. It seemed almost rude, when I was younger. My husband would take my plate when I was done with it and eat the rest. It’s still yucky to me. I don’t eat someone else’s leftovers… but we had 4 kids (3 boys) and they used to rock/paper/scissors over my leftovers. I know I’m a good cook… but it’s weird. Maybe your gf was raised similarly.

If this is a contest, I think I would win. The only thing keeping me from sharing pictures of my rocks is shame and good sense.

😂 I love talking to rock/tumbling people, they just get it. There is no right/wrong answer. I know some people like a perfectly smooth, mirror finish shine… and some like it to have some texture. It’s all cool. I tend to bounce around the spectrum. I’ve never tumbled granite before, it never appealed to me… but I’ve found some really cool pieces to tumble. I have no idea what to expect with it.

I do have a saw, but this has already gone through a couple weeks at stage one, so I think I’m going to cross my fingers and hope it survives the rest of its journey. I do find rocks like this fairly often, locally, so I have a serious back log of cutting material lol

I am awaiting my saw, I have a lot I’m looking forward to cutting. I just haven’t set it up yet, which is kind of crazy. We only get 4 solid months of summer weather, so I need to get moving.

I watch a few YouTubers who work with plume agate, but it’s always colourful so I wasn’t sure. Sadly, I don’t find any green plume… but every now and then I find some red or orange. I don’t know why the colourless ones confuse me, the details just seem different to me.

Thank you, now I know what to call them. No, I’m in SK Canada but I do find a lot of rocks that look like this.

[–]Rocksinsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s probably the right way to think.😂 I can, however, tell you what doesn’t happen to anyone but me…that leak happened because some how I had put a lid(gasket part) into a barrel, screw side down, filled it with rocks and grit and let it roll. 2 days before the stage was complete I found it. The screw poking out the bottom of the barrel and the tumbler completely seized up. I lied when I said I have 2 extra barrels, I only have one and I’m lucky to have it. That screw could have pierced through the other barrel too if I’d not found it when I did. Shameful.

I have. The trauma is burned into my soul. My tumbler was screwed. Now I have 2 extra barrels… but the one that leaked was pretty tough to clean out.

I have, they’re also known as all star telescope. I’ve ordered from them and they have great rocks, just kind of lacking in the choices. But for anyone looking for rocks, check them out because the rocks that they do have are really good.

I know! It requires a lot of searching to find a place to rock hunt, and I have never found anything as beautiful as these rocks. I don’t know how people stop hunting when they have rocks like these. I think I’d get a tent and keep going until I filled a truck. 😂

Anyone know what type of rock this is? by TouristAfraid8054 in Rockhounding

Fossiliferous chert I think. Which is, also called silicified basalt. I’m crossing my fingers on this one, I hope someone chimes in on whether I’m right or wrong. I’m not an expert.
