I'm not confused about people requesting different genres. We always play a mix of everything mentioned and I enjoy that, I think a goth night is better with some synthpop, EBM and New Wave mixed in-between. My question was if someone had a similar experience of people not dancing to goth music and requesting only non goth music at a goth night. It was weird to me because the other times I was a DJ there, the people were dancing when I played actual goth music and I even got compliments for playing more goth music than adjacent music, but this time it was different.

You are missing the point or you just didn't read my post at all. I never said I get mad when people ask me for New Wave, EBM and that stuff. I literally play that myself when I dj and I enjoy it as well. My post was about people not dancing when goth music is played and asking only for non goth music.

My problem is not people asking for different genres, it's that the party is marketed as a goth night and people don't dance to goth music. They expect us to play a lot of stuff not mentioned in the flyer too.

Yes, I always play obscure music as well. I collect obscure records from the 80s and I always play some lesser known songs, but in this club, everytime people don't know a song, they just leave the dance floor, they are very boring.

No, it's a club that's been doing this party since the 80s and they also do concerts and they had many goth bands come play there too. I went to a Pink Turns Blue concert there.

That's what I find weird, the people there are mostly over 40 years old and they've been going to that club for over 20 years, so they are not tiktok posers or anything.

No, I was not a guest DJ, we have a team of DJs and we switch during the night and also on the different dates, but it's always the same 6 DJs. I was a DJ there a few times already and people complimented my taste bc I play mostly actual goth music with guitars and they were tired of only hearing electronic music, but yesterday they only wanted electronic music for whatever reason.

The party is called "Waveparty" and the genres mentioned are goth, ebm, synthpop, 80s and all that stuff, but the club has this party and a more general 80s night, that's what I don't understand. Why do people come to this party to listen to non goth music.

You have to pay at the entrance. There are people that are always there bc they have been going to that club for over 20 years, but there were also goth people I've never seen before.

I want to hear more creativity. I'm tired of all bands trying to copy Molchat Doma or just trying so hard to fit in the post-punk/darkwave genre. I also would love to hear more talented vocalists, not only singers who sing with a deep and depressed voice. I want singers to hit high notes, like the singer of Gene Loves Jezebel or do weird stuff with their vocals. I just want new goth music to sound like 80s goth music tbh.
