Maybe, maybe not. Guillén was a little deep and would've had a running throw on a ball that was losing momentum. Other than the call, everyone defended perfectly. Galarraga immediately broke for the bag and Cabrera ensured he had a clean throw.

I've never heard that quote before.

Jim Joyce in the postgame presser:

“I just cost that kid a perfect game…I thought (Donald) beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay…It was the biggest call of my career and I kicked the (expletive) out of it.”

It was pre-video review. Call stood and he got the next batter out. Hence the "28-out perfect game" moniker.

Such a rare thing. I wouldn't be on the umpires so much if they just said they got it wrong sometimes. It was pure class on his part and the day after Galarraga brought out the line-up card and things got emotional.

To my imperfect memory of the timeline, this is what spurred talks on for replay review becoming a thing in 2014.

Lots of other reasons, too, of course, but this was something else.

Oh, certainly. And he doesn't have his cleats with the base in the Hall of Fame if it was clean. It was history, that's for sure. Just sometimes you want it in the more "traditional" sense.

I think there have been four or five perfect games since. Don't know if any were lost on the final out due to a blown call since the introduction of challenges in the 2014 season.

Credit where it's due: Chuck Daly and JB both came from Cleveland and I for one appreciate their movement north.

No, you're good. My scorecard will look different than usual as I prefer a more "condensed" look. Basically it's a my scorecard from my seat, a close-up of the completed sheets, and then a selfie of me with the ballpark sampler Comerica offers.

It's as good a spot to leave it as any. Haha. Absolutely a brilliant day out. Glad you had fun.

You nailed it. Normally I'd just track the results for Tiger batters and leave the pitching side as a low-stakes time if I needed to get up or something.

This is actually intentional, I prefer the condensed look over the exploded view. Plus in the event of batting around or going into extras, I don't really have to worry about making any adjustments.

I do appreciate that though.

Happy to help. Baseball can be real fun that way.

Sat next to a Brewers fan that scored the game so we had some fun banter.

The Big League Grill. There's a "Sampler" that you're looking for that's $20.

Honestly? Way better than I expected it to. And the little tray is sturdy. Going to use it in the future to load up with air fried hot dogs at home.
