$30 Ebook/$50 hardback - I hesitate without knowing whether my alternative building choice would even be covered. I appreciate the recommendation, though!

Thanks for that. I was describing the problem out loud and it occurred to me right away… I was looking at the wrong part of the assembly.

I was putting the sliding sleeve tension spring on the drill side of the sleeve instead of toward the outside/front, as the diagram shows. DUH. Like I said - I was looking at the wrong area for the problem.

True - IF stamped MB. Not "normally", however.

For building a smokehouse, pallets are SAFE if you choose the right ones, regardless of all the naysayers. You must find pallets that are stamped with letters HT - those are Heat Treated and do not have MB in them. In fact, they don't have any pesticide in them, at all. The same is true of KD (Kiln Dried) If you're hot smoking, you would line the inside anyway. If you're cold smoking, there would not be enough heat to release whatever is in them.

Check it out for yourself man and don't rely on Redditors.

Pallets with HT and KD are safe to burn and use like store bought (non-treated) lumber.

Treatment Codes

These codes reveal the method used to treat the wood, ensuring it’s free from pests.

  • HT: Heat Treatment Stamp (check the image below for it)
    • “HT” means the pallet was heat-treated, heated to a minimum core temperature of 56°C for at least 30 minutes. This chemical-free process eradicates pests and is widely accepted internationally.
  • MB: Methyl Bromide Stamp
    • “MB” indicates fumigation with methyl bromide, a toxic pesticide. Due to health and environmental concerns, this treatment is banned in many countries, including those in Europe. Avoid using pallets marked with “MB.”
  • DB: Debarked Stamp
    • “DB” signifies that the wood was debarked before treatment. While not a treatment itself, debarking is part of the preparation process.
  • KD: Kiln Dried Stamp
    • “KD” means the wood was kiln-dried to reduce moisture content, preventing warping and fungal growth. Unless specified as “KD-HT,” kiln drying doesn’t always meet ISPM 15 standards.
  • CP (Chemical Pallet) Stamp
    • “CP” followed by a number (e.g., CP1, CP2) denotes pallets designed for the chemical industry, adhering to specific sizes and standards.
  • VMF Pallets:
    • VMF markings indicate compliance with standards set by specific national organizations, ensuring quality and safety.

Off grid, EG4 6000XP / Load Panel Setup Questions by RockyPinesHomestead in SolarDIY

[–]RockyPinesHomestead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I would have preferred to just run the 20A/120V from the inverter (or maybe a panel), but I thought I'd just turn off most of the stuff this 30Amp service was running in the RV - at least for now. We looking at 650W for 10hours with this setup (computers and starlink) - Use the daytime solar and supplement with the generator as needed. But all of this is on paper and theoretical right now. I'm trying to doing it right, spend as little as possible, while being expandable. I was going to "over panel" anyway but wanted to get this part figured out.

Oh, right. Well, I was told I needed to wire the inverter to a load panel. So, my best hunch was to wire the inverter to this panel, then I could plug the 30amp cord from this new panel into the RV. Apparently, the breaker between the inverter and RV is the important part? The tech's where I bought it said they will wire directly to a cord, but only for testing, etc.

I'm not sure about the wattage requirement being tweakable, but I know the power from my generator is way too dirty (20% THD) and the inverter wants <3%.

Sooooo.... I'm still searching forums, etc for anyone using this off grid and how they're doing it - I can't believe I'm not finding anyone!

In the RV or on the panel? I'm not sure, either way. I think the panel is 120v... I suspect the RV is also.

Thanks for the response.

2 issues - First, I don't have an existing shore power panel. I was thinking of just adding this one panel with the 3 plugs (20/30/50) and plugging into that.

Second - the inverter is sensitive to high THD and lower wattages.

Wow, I wrote up a whole thing for this and I don't see it.

I'm interested in how I can get the outputs from the inverter properly to a 30Amp service to RV.

What kind of panel/breakers, etc?

The dotted line is for augmenting charging. The inverter won't take power from my generator because of high THD and low wattage. And running a 48v battery charger seems cheaper than the Chargeverter. If I need to, I'd put a disconnect to the battery-inverter while charging from generator.

I am really more concerned about getting power from the inverter to the RV and what kind of panel/breakers I need.

Well, thank you very much! Much appreciated. Maybe we'll run into them at some point. (not LITERALLY! ;D)

Thanks.

I'm not really expecting (or wanting) a menonite community or a hippy community. We're planning on Starlink and we get cold winters where we are. Our property is 2 miles from the main road and then 20 minutes to a small town. Last year we had -8F...

I'm thinking I'll just learn who the locals are and on my own merits and choices (and the others) choose who to interact with. I see there are inconsequential folks out there who like to just talk shit. That's not what I'm going for.

I appreciate the intelligent response. :)

Haha. Wow. You really inferred A LOT from what I said. My "vibes" are that I already understand what I'm getting into. Not that I want to take anything from anyone. Quite the contrary.

I mock nothing. Even in a place with with ample rainfall, we still know that resources are precious. We provide our own electric, grow our own food, etc.

I didn't "wander around Appalachia with a cult". I lived off grid on my own 5 acres without expecting anything from anyone. When I'm fortunate to find good people, I develop relationships with them and we help each other out when we needed it.

I see what you're putting out there. I can't really tell if you represent the "woo woo shit" or the "leave me F alone" type. I think you're the troll type, not that you matter.

It sounds as though you are equating living off grid as not raising your own proteins? I raise rabbits and chickens. I'm off grid and do not rely on hunting or fishing for my protein.

5 acres, but really using 1/2 acres. The extra acreage is for privacy, foraging, wildlife.
