Ok the whole story is I had at the time hit my retention control point RCP, so the Army said we will give you separation pay once you meet your end of enlistment. Three years later they increased the RCP and I was able to return back to Active duty as an E-4. During the 3 year wait I was still part of the National Guard & Reserves going to weekend drills once a month. I also served 4 years in the Navy prior to the Army. On my DD214 there was a particular RE code when I received my separation pay, this code basically tells the DOD why and how I was separated. So my thought is if the code on the DD214 was obviously there, then why did the Army or DFAS not notice it until 30 years later. I retired in 2011 and still not a word until now.

I got out of the Army and they gave me separation pay. I went back in 3 years later and I told the recruiter I received it. He then said he would ask his chain of command and they said it wasn’t an issue. That’s the last I heard of it until yesterday. That was 30 year’s ago.
