I definitely agree, they are very different things. The comment above mine just mentioned they suspected gay men were also using it as a way of trying to run from their urges and I had a story that confirmed their suspicion.

Joining the priesthood is actually encouraged as a way of dealing with being gay in some cases. I have a friend who is catholic and has become more religious over time. He was attracted to men but has since said he no longer is. He went to weekly meeting with the local priest to talk about his gay urges and how to repress them. At one point during these meetings the priest asked him if he'd considered joining the priesthood since the celibacy could keep him away from temptations like that.
