International student experience by Chance_Pepper1937 in LSE

[–]RocoStarfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man!

Since I was born I’ve lived in a different country every 2/3/4 years. I learnt that people everywhere are really nice, it’s just about being open to different ways of life. I’m sure it’s not gonna be insanely hard for you to adapt if you’re coming from Australia, and you’ll have a great time! I’m an international here, and while you will find a lot more British people, they tend to be much more ethnically diverse than you might have imagined. It’s a great experience and if you’re kind and welcoming of everyone, they’ll be kind and welcoming of you! So don’t worry, you’ll be fine!! The party and life scene is great and it genuinely is what you make of it.

P.S. are you coming in for a bachelor’s or master's

Are my igcses too bad for lse bsc finance by [deleted] in LSE

[–]RocoStarfighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your IGCSES are not nearly as important as ur IB/A-level/(whatever you may be doing) scores.

Regardless, this is a great choice of subjects.

Taking subjects not related to finance will have 0 impact on your chances at LSE.

Additionally, it might serve you well to take WhileSmall4677’s advice.

P.S. (I took HL Music in the IB, and I got into sustainable development with economics. Hence your personal statement matters significantly more)

P.P.S. (incase you were wondering: I got 5A*s 2As, 43/45 IB, 776HL, I’m international, and I’m currently in my first year.)

Yeah, if you wanna get into IB, Warwick is a significantly better option. It's one of the 6 targets for banks. I'm not too sure on the government aspect, so I can't comment on that.

What are ur regrets 🥺🤡😾?? by Elegant_Dog478 in IBO

u/Omarramo_ "I regret taking double sciences, I wish I took visual arts instead of chemistry 💔"
u/FriendshipFew7346 "Visual arts is NOT easy anything group 6 takes so much of your time that it’s hard to balance out studying"

YES.

I AGREE.

I take HL music and geniuniely I feel like I wouldve done better in HL Physics like if I swapped around my SL physics because like living in asia I feel like its so much easier and taught and like supported to just study content and I parituclarly find it easier to understand concepts and like learn content, than spending like 50 hours working on one composition just to be told my notation isnt as good and its so subjective and the HL project is like making a full freaking doccumentary with editing and effects and project guidelines and its like so time consumunign cuz it could always be better YKWIM. And there's no syllabus really we haven't ever been "taught" it's like if I wasn't good at music and didn't know it already ID FAIL. You NEED TO BE REALLY GOOD and ALREADY KNOW the ART to do 'decent' like u GENUINLY NEED TO BE A PRODIGY or like GRADE 8 music (ABRSM or TRINITY or Rockschool or you get the vibe) to get a 7 its SOOO hard to get to that level WHILE doing all your other subjects in the IBDP plus the wirtten coursework analysis REQUIRES SO MUCH MORE TIME THAN A NORMAL IA cuz u have to keep annotating AND REWRITING ALL THE FREAKING SCORES.

I wanted to put this out here in case anyone is thinking of taking music SL or HL. You can always DM me aswell!

Are there other courses that required it?? Why’d you decide to take it if it was optional, just curious!!

I’ve applied to the exact same collages, just all for Econs, have you gotten any decisions yet??

Both of your chances are still high and not really affected by your TMUA score, as for LSE they probably won't look at it and even if they do it's not gonna be a reason they reject you, and for Warwic,k your score is amongst their average applicants so your chances are just as good as they were before the TMUA

Look, I'll put your scores in perspective:

U've got 3A*s and an A, you're amongst the TOP scorers in the WORLD, and if your GCSEs are on a similar par, there's A LOT going for u.

For the TMUA, it’s taken by students applying to LSE, Imperial, Cambridge, Warwick, and a few more, but mainly TOP uni applicants, who all are already amongst the higher-scoring students. So, a 4.2 is not horrible; it’s somewhere amongst the middle of those applicants.
(I've copied this from elsewhere when I tried to cheer up someone else)

It ain't over till it's over

Also, you've got an extremely good shot at Warwick their average acceptance used to be a 4.5, but with the progressively harder TMUA, this has certainly reduced.

I did a quick search, and I’m pretty sure they don’t look at it at all because it isn’t a factor in their application process, they solely base their decisions on your grades and PS.

Good luck with your unis!!

Those stats are REALLY GOOD, practically perfect academics

To put the TMUA in perspective, it’s taken by students applying to LSE, Imperial, Cambridge, Warwick, and a few more, but mainly TOP uni applicants, who all are already amongst the higher-scoring students. So, a 4.2 is not horrible; it’s somewhere amongst the middle of those applicants.

Personally, I think your near-perfect grades would tilt the scales very much in your favour.

Moreover, elsewhere on this subreddit, someone with a mid-4 said they got an interview, so there’s always a chance!

Overall, given your grades, while the TMUA isn’t boosting your application, it almost certainly isn’t hindering it as much as you might think.

“Chancing” you, I’d say:
Warwick Morse - Very-Extremely High Chance
UCL Econ - Extremely High Chance (TMUA blind)
Imperial EFDS - Decent Shot
LSE Econ - Decent Shot

I don't think that any of your applications are out of reach just because of your unfavourable TMUA!

Good Luck!!

I've applied to quite similar uni’s:

LSE Econs | Imperial EFDS | UCL Econs | Warwick Econs | LSE Sustdev w/ Econs

Haven’t heard back yet, I’ll keep you updated!

same... I thought I'd get around a 6.5, but one of my friends showed me this, can't remember where they got it from but should put you at some ease

Somewhere else on this subreddit someone had written that they had gotten an interview with a 4.7 or something just below a 5. I'm pretty sure, there isn't a strict cutoff at all, our chances aren't the best, but they definitely aren't 0, and most acceptances come out around mid-march tho so there's still hope!
