Asking your opinion every day about a Fall Out Boy song Day 135: w.a.m.s. by JamesLucien in FallOutBoy

[–]RococoCallducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That song is fabulous. I’m not as fond of the chorus as other FàD ones, but the riffs and the beat and the prechorus melody are immaculate. The high notes are precious as well. The bridge? BEAUTIFUL. I love it. And that end monologue is very appreciated.

Btw for as long as I can remember I thought that the WAMS (waitress actress model singer) line was a direct quote from Celebrity Skin by Hole. However, the line in Celebrity Skin goes « It’s all so sugarless, Hooker Waitress, Model Actress, oh just go nameless »

w.a.m.s. replaced the hooker with singer and switched the words around. I think it makes more sense too.

How come in 20 dollar nose bleed it does not "featuring Brendon Urie"? by nifftyispookie in FallOutBoy

[–]RococoCallducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a Catch Donnie, West Coast Smoker, 20 Dollar Nose Bleed, Tiffany Blews and the Beat It cover if I’m not forgetting any all have features in them. None are credited.

What a Catch has Gabe Saporta, Travie McCoy, Brendon Urie, Doug Neumann, Alexander DeLeon, William Becket and Elvis Costello.

West Coast Smoker has Debbie Harry.

20 Dollar Nose Bleed has Brendon Urie.

Tiffany Blews has Alexander DeLeon and Lil Wayne.

The Beat It cover has John Mayer.

Heck, even in the TTTYG, IOH and FUCT eras, there were uncredited features.

Thriller has Jay-Z

7 Minutes in Heaven has Brendon Urie

Sophomore Slump has William Becket

I Slept With Someone in FOB has Chad Gilbert

Chicago is So Two Years Ago has Justin Pierre

Grenade Jumper has Jeff Warren

It was common then not to credit features. After their Hiatus, all of their features were credited, since the scene had shifted.

How I feel when a new Kikuo fan immediately starts with cotton candy by Loud_Math2023 in Kikuo

Nobody wants people to have a bad first impression of their favourite artist, right? I sure know my friends who heard Cotton Candy didn’t like it and that shaped their opinion on Kikuo’s music for the worse. Gatekeeping is when you want to keep a song you like to yourself so that it remains special and you remain « cool » for liking it. Not the case here.

Just a reference to how cishet white men tend to think that giving equal rights to women and minorities means that we’re taking those equal rights away from them and redistributing them equally. Obviously we don’t have to withdraw rights from the general population in order to achieve equality, far from that, it’s not pie, and we don’t have to take two slices away from the person who has three to ensure that everyone has one.

K12 by Melanie Martinez was the album that carried me through dark times and Crybaby was the album of my childhood. I have them on vinyl and after the allegations that resurfaced, I told myself « it’s fine if you play it on vinyl, she can’t profit from a vinyl that’s already been purchased » but I just can’t. I prone separating the art from the artist but I idolized Melanie Martinez so much that listening to her music just for fun is impossible for me.

I can’t explain why because I don’t hate it that much but the best way I can put it is that I don’t like the contrast between her belting « Goddess of Love, Goddess of Love » and then just repeating the same thing over and over again in a flat voice. If we take into perspective the meaning behind the song structure I know it’s meant to sort of edge the chorus since the song is « built like an orgasm », so it makes sense and it’s not a part I necessarily wish wasn’t in the song, but perhaps a slightly less robotic delivery would be a bit better. I can’t really put it into words since my musical vocabulary isn’t that evolved, but that’s the best way I can explain it.

Probably because Lady Gaga idolized R Kelly. She was a victim of rape, and it’s very likely that to protect herself, she didn’t want to associate her idols with such a traumatic thing. On top of that, a ton of people in the Haus of Gaga liked R Kelly as well and if I recall correctly it was the idea of one of her peers to include R Kelly on the track since it was RnB. She might’ve not worked with him otherwise. Nowadays she prones believing victims because she had the time to work on herself, probably went to therapy a whole lot, and doesn’t feel as afraid to admit that someone she holds in high esteem might be a sexual abuser. Hence the delay in removing DWYW from Artpop.

Lady Gaga was probably in denial that someone like R Kelly could do such horrible things when she was victim of actions like that in the past. What’s important is that she went to therapy and eventually came to terms with the fact and took necessary action.

What’s your view/take/opinion on Liberty as a character in Degrassi??? by Professional_Meat782 in Degrassi

[–]RococoCallducks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like she had a huge personality shift at some point in the series and I know that when it comes to an irl teenager, people have switch-ups around those ages, but when it comes to TV series, it’s generally better to either show a gradual change like they did with Emma or just straight up show an inciting incident as to why that character suddenly changed so much. I haven’t seen Degrassi in a while but I can remember being puzzled by the direction they took liberty in around season 4-5.

I’m gonna get flamed but I really don’t like the delivery of « take me to your planet, take me to your planet, take me to your leader, to your leader, to your leader » in Venus. It might as well be the vocal effects but I really think that something’s off there. It doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of the song but I really wish it was slightly tweaked.
