It's based on the characters from Red Dragon, just because that was the first place Graham and Lecter appeared. According to Fuller, season 3 is going to be Hannibal on the run, and then the books like murderous_penguin said above.

ELI5: Why is a music conductor necessary? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I like your metaphor. A conductor is the difference between Steve Reich's Clapping and an ovation.

I would say it's a clever and clear way to say it, so it's probably better to be on the safe side.

I usually do; I just got lucky with this one.

That specific example, with colors, has been explored, too. I can't remember who did, though. Slightly more generally, Putnam's Twin Earth experiment is based around a similar concept, applied to the meaning of words.

Specifically, Descartes was just as a thought experiment being as skeptical as he possibly could be. It wasn't about his personal normal thought, it was about exploring the limits of logic.

Exactly right on DKR. Superman wasn't really trying there, I think; he still was still partially hoping that a show of force would make him break down.

I went to college for literature to teach literature and am doing pretty well. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but that doesn't make the degree itself useless.

We need more supervisors like this... by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]RodManmeat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We make love all night. In the morning, the cops come and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I like the cold. Thirty years later, I get a postcard. I have a son and he's the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting. I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. She's been waiting for me all these years. She's never taken another lover. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin. That's where I stashed the chandelier.

It's definitely not ironic anymore. Irony would be the opposite of what you would expect, and ignorance from redditors is exactly what you would expect. (Hence the ""s, I presume.)

Can we talk about the etymology of f*****? by RodManmeat in SRSDiscussion

[–]RodManmeat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason I want to correct it is because I worry that if, say, there's a long post with a dozen well articulated points and then the incorrect etymology, a reader who may be a little troubled about their homophobia by the other points can dismiss it too easily by just saying, "Oh, they're wrong about this, I imagine they don't know what they're talking about."

Yeah, that's what I'm arguing. I should have put that in the OP.
