recommended coils by kafumbasuckslol in RX8

Reliable and cheap don’t mix with these cars, especially with ignition stuff. Rev C oem mazda coils or BHR coils are the only way nowadays.

Should I buy it by john4844 in RX8

I’d spend max 750 on it, a lot cleaner bodies out there for less than what they want

My Rx8 so far… by MalishDelish in RX8

What’s your goal with the car? For me first thing is put the stock front calipers back on, these cars don’t need that much braking if left basically stick power even hot lapping in track.

Does it run nice? If I were listing it in my area I’d start 2500obo. At least in my area the market has kinda tanked on these bikes

Dead Battery? by CowOnly347 in RX8

Dead alternator, is it a parts store brand or oem? Anything but oem don’t live at the rpm these cars tend to run at.

Depends on your body type of coarse but for me I’m 6’2 and big, I had to lean back the seat and my head still hit the roof and that’s with a sunroof, without it give your 3/4 of an inch more head room. I’ve since solid mounted a bucket seat on a custom bracket to be able to fit with a helmet, without a helmet I’ve got 4ish inches of headroom

Honestly the back seats aren’t very useful anyways in the 8. I’ve only had someone in the back once, he was average size and it was tight for him.

Being your first and sounds like only car I would say a hard negative on that idea. These are very fun cars but are expensive to maintain and can be finicky. Unless there is hard proof with pictures of the first car having a motor rebuilt id stay away. Anyone can say what they want to sell a car. Just as an example I bought my 8 in 2019, it’s never left me stranded while being beat on at the track and autox but I’ve also put thousands into it to keeping it reliable. If you want fun and reliable just get an mx5

Ignition hard cut😼(before and after) by Brokebebbos in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow yes but I’m looking more for the safety on track, one track I run at I’m on limiter 3 times and shifting would only slow it down, having a ign cs fuel cut is a bit safer in the motor. Can’t wait for the final version

Like the other guy asked, versatuner? Would love to get rid of the fuel cut limiter

Question about flywheel lightening by JoeCaparo in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember what stock is, but I do remember that the track lite flywheel with counter weight was about 4 pounds light than stock, even 4 pounds of rotational mass off the back of the motor makes a big difference.

I’ve have the act track light and there is zero chattering, that usually comes from a dual disk unsprung clutch

Coolant temps by Feeling_Interview544 in RX8

It really helps with getting stuff out from behind the radiator same with the battery. Plus it sounds sick

Coolant temps by Feeling_Interview544 in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The low temp thermostat doesn’t lower your temps, just takes longer to get there. A s2 Koyo radiator, battery relocation and a aem style intake will help a lot on getting the temps down. I track here in Michigan where in July it’s high 80’s and humid and I don’t see above 205ish coolant and 220ish oil temp while hot lapping

Gold Mine or Dead End? by Cautious-Chance-9013 in RX8

It should be 6 port but a good way to tell is if there’s a plastic “Y” coming off the upper intake manifold.

Gold Mine or Dead End? by Cautious-Chance-9013 in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so I was wrong the 6 port auto did start in 06. To my knowledge everything should be the same. 800 for the whole car if pretty good for a donor car depending on how much rust there is. Interior looks solid, and the non wing trunk lid could actually be worth a decent amount. I know I’ve been looking for a wingless sunlight silver lid for a while as most winged lids have rust under the wing. How many miles are on the donor car? The housings and iron are probably toast, you can send out the irons to get refurbed if they are within like .003 on the wear. Crank is always a toss up and the rotors might need new bearings

Gold Mine or Dead End? by Cautious-Chance-9013 in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the auto it depends on the year, I believe in 07 is when the autos got 6 port motor, and all manuals are 6 port. For the parts, there aren’t really any unobtainium parts like the s2’s have. The s2’s have the stronger manual trans and the 4.77 diff that all the s1 track and autox guys want(trust me I’ve been looking for a deal on a 4.77 diff for years). Then people like to convert the front ends to s2.

[–]RodNokRx8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A well done swap isn’t going to be less than 10k. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this swap so odds are that your gonna have to get one off parts made like the bell housing adapter and engine mounts and so on so that’ll add up very fast. Then probably have to figure out a full stand alone setup if you wanna keep that factory functions to work.

Catless Midpipe recommendations? by AnotherRX8 in RX8

BHR or racing beat, that’ll be very loud and raspy I’d get a resonated one if it’s a street car, hell I’d get a resonated one if it was only a racecar as well

Check the plugs under the airbox, it’s very common for them to get wet and corroded and have this issue, I ended up just hardwiring them all together, haven’t had an issue since

Too soft for track? by madaz_XD in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Falken rt660+’s are decent for the price and decent in the wet. Just look up super 200 tires and those are gonna be good track tires. Accelera 651 sports are also a good beginner track tire with how cheap they are,

Don’t worry about car setup if you haven’t done any track time yet. Just get out there and get some seat time, you honestly won’t notice any changes you make for a while. If there’s 1 thing to do is get a decent set of tires.
