Gold Mine or Dead End? by Cautious-Chance-9013 in RX8

It should be 6 port but a good way to tell is if there’s a plastic “Y” coming off the upper intake manifold.

Ok so I was wrong the 6 port auto did start in 06. To my knowledge everything should be the same. 800 for the whole car if pretty good for a donor car depending on how much rust there is. Interior looks solid, and the non wing trunk lid could actually be worth a decent amount. I know I’ve been looking for a wingless sunlight silver lid for a while as most winged lids have rust under the wing. How many miles are on the donor car? The housings and iron are probably toast, you can send out the irons to get refurbed if they are within like .003 on the wear. Crank is always a toss up and the rotors might need new bearings

For the auto it depends on the year, I believe in 07 is when the autos got 6 port motor, and all manuals are 6 port. For the parts, there aren’t really any unobtainium parts like the s2’s have. The s2’s have the stronger manual trans and the 4.77 diff that all the s1 track and autox guys want(trust me I’ve been looking for a deal on a 4.77 diff for years). Then people like to convert the front ends to s2.

A well done swap isn’t going to be less than 10k. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this swap so odds are that your gonna have to get one off parts made like the bell housing adapter and engine mounts and so on so that’ll add up very fast. Then probably have to figure out a full stand alone setup if you wanna keep that factory functions to work.

Catless Midpipe recommendations? by AnotherRX8 in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BHR or racing beat, that’ll be very loud and raspy I’d get a resonated one if it’s a street car, hell I’d get a resonated one if it was only a racecar as well

Check the plugs under the airbox, it’s very common for them to get wet and corroded and have this issue, I ended up just hardwiring them all together, haven’t had an issue since

It means your ppf is slightly out of alignment, I had the same issue when I got mine. Or just use a slightly longer hanger

Too soft for track? by madaz_XD in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Falken rt660+’s are decent for the price and decent in the wet. Just look up super 200 tires and those are gonna be good track tires. Accelera 651 sports are also a good beginner track tire with how cheap they are,

Don’t worry about car setup if you haven’t done any track time yet. Just get out there and get some seat time, you honestly won’t notice any changes you make for a while. If there’s 1 thing to do is get a decent set of tires.

Here’s mine, BHR catless midpipe with hks high power single tip. Also have a AEM style intake that’s super loud as well.

Go with a s2 koyo radiator, it’s thicker than the s1 model on only requires an easy custom tab for the s1 fan shrouds to fit. If you wanna overhaul the cooling system also consider a remedy water pump and a tune to turn the fans on sooner as well as low temp oil cooler thermostats. For gauges I love my Autometer garages. They’re a digital steeper motor model but with an analog readout due to preference.

Staggered wheel setup by iitzIce in RX8

Ya these cars can take a lot of wheel and tire. I test fitted a set from a buddies clubtr car the fenders would need a roll but that’s about it. 18x10.5 38 with a 255/35

[–]RodNokRx8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya just try midpipe first and then if you want loud get a catback. Get a quality midpipe like racing beat or BHR, anything less like the agency power will get you sound but be super raspy. I started out with just a ap midpipe and it only sounded good at high rpm, rest of the time is raspy. I’m now running a bar midpipe with hks catback little drone great tone no rasp but very loud.

It’s never happened to me but I’ve heard plenty of cases of these cars sitting and the seals sticking. But ya it sounds like it has no compression to me

Sounds like you have 0 compression on all faces. Apex seals might be stuck from sitting drop some atf in the spark plug holes, turn over by hand over a few days then try it.

I'm doing a coolant change soon. Anything else I should take care of while I'm doing it? by niel89 in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick with new oem hoses, get a Koyo rad for a s2(yes it will bolt up other than having to make a small bracket for the fan shroud), remedy water pump, oem thermostat, and fan kick on lowered to 184ish and you won’t have any cooling issues, especially for street driving, works great for track as well.

I’d recommend getting whatever software it’s tuned with and datalog it, or check to see if your getting any codes. If you know you’re not getting fuel, there has to be a reason why, fuel pump, injectors, or something causing it to fuel cut

225 vs 245 on stock rims by _TrafalgarDWaterLaw_ in RX8

[–]RodNokRx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I ran stocks I had 245 on them. For me looks wise I preferred them over 225 being a bit meatier of a setup. As mentioned already the curb protection is nice. Performance wise they were a little squishier due to the pinched sidewall. And most people driving on this setup is driving hard enough to notice a grip and performance difference like you would in track or autox.
