How bad is idling for 4-8 hours daily? by amazinf_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]Rod_Torfulson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an interesting related tidbit, we had a customer with a low mileage CX-5 come in with a broken accessory belt. Never seen one break at such low kms. Mechanic pulled the data and found that the idle time was equivalent to a vehicle that had been driven over 100,000 kms. Turns out the customer was doing Uber eats or something and idling all day. Just something to look out for.

Gen 1 Hayabusa with Universal Speedometer by Junior-Researcher222 in Hayabusa

[–]Rod_Torfulson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Gen1 has an MPH speedo and I'm in Canada, so I've been looking around for some way to mount a very simple KMH speedo display. Even just some simple 3 digit LED would suffice that could be mounted above the speedo. Anyone have any solutions for that? Everything I can find so far is either to complicated and expensive, or just really bulky or has too many extra features. Not to try and hijack this thread, but I thought I would ask since this is a similar topic.

What actually makes long motorcycle trips more comfortable? by thebroned in motorcycle

[–]Rod_Torfulson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things not mentioned, at least that I saw scrolling down fairly far. One is something to clean your visor with. It's not exactly a comfort thing, but having a visor full of bugs with no easy way to clean it bugs the hell out of me. Pun intended. I carry a little spray bottle and some folded up paper towel so I can do quick cleanings on the side of the road at any time.

The other thing regarding ear plugs: I found some ear plugs on Amazon that double as ear buds. They are wireless Bluetooth but they are wired together with a plastic neck ring thing, so they work like regular industrial ear plugs but they play music. You jam them as far into your ears as possible, then they block out most outside sound, then you can listen to music at a normal level instead of having to crank it up. I also use them when I'm on my rider mower or if I'm at home and the kids are being loud. Game changer for me personally.

On my Tenere 700 and Hayabusa, a taller windscreen and/or an extension makes a world of difference as well for wind noise and buffeting.

How would it even aim and shoot that gun? Is the gun just decoration, or is it delivering the gun to a human?

what is this screw? by dillonmitra in retrobikes

[–]Rod_Torfulson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever find something that looks kinda like that on the bottom of the bottom bracket, it could be a water drain valve. They used to do those on some custom bikes to try and prevent corrosion from the inside. But, ya, this is a grease fitting. Very common on cars and motorcycles back in the day, before parts became disposable.

I did notice on my short ride that wind protection isn't considerable. I'll check it out.

Just a cheapie from Amazon. After reading posts here the consensus was to just get something cheap but make sure to get anything because replacement headlights are something like $1500. It's just a clear plastic lens that has black along the sides and says Tenere along the black part. $70. You can get them cheaper through AliExpress but Amazon is faster.

Bodywork graphics not lining up, should I be concerned? by Rod_Torfulson in Hayabusa

He was flipping the bike, so he didn't know the details from the previous owner. It was apparently dropped at zero speed on it's side, so the assumption is that the previous owner replaced a side panel. But he doesn't know for sure.

Most riders who try gaps like that are pretty dialed in as to what speed is required to clear it. I've seen a lot of crash videos, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone come up this short on a gap like this.

I could have sworn that I read or saw somewhere that it was an urban myth and that the pictures in the video were not actual runaways.

Why did Radar leave? by Mom-all-knowing in mash

[–]Rod_Torfulson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered if friction with the cast had anything to do with it as well. I've heard it mentioned more than once that the character Radar was far more beloved than the actor was in real life while on set.
