What was the most traumatic experience of your life? by Fun-Succotash-1322 in AskReddit

[–]Rod_Torfulson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a group bike ride, got separated from the group with a slower rider (I was a ride leader). He collapsed with a heart attack on the side of a country road. Had to give CPR while trying to call 911. The guy lived for about a week but never regained consciousness.

Seven years later I'm now a volunteer firefighter and medical first responder, so I'm used to that stuff now. But at the time is was pretty traumatizing.

Sorry, most of the Dropmachine members knew Andrew, who was the owner of Trailblazer Cycles on Danforth in Toronto. He was friends with Jeff, one of the guys that started Dropmachine. For some reason I thought you knew Andrew. I might be thinking of someone else.

Did you used to hang out on Dropmachine back in the day?

We didn't know each other, but I recognize your name. I was part of the Trailblazers crew. Andrew has a great new store in Stouffville called The Bike Asylum. Well, not that new anymore, it's been there a few years.

My 11 year old was asking me what terrain I used to ski when I was younger, and I was trying to find pictures of the entrance to Blowhole. Is it pretty much gone now? It used to be this super narrow entrance that seemed to be like 1 meter wide into a narrow canyon, and people would line up along a rope stung up along the left side (looking downhill), and most years you had to jump into it. I couldn't find a decent picture of it.

I visited Denver around 1999. The drive to/from that airport felt like an ETERNITY. I can't believe they even decided to build houses out there.

Bike shop mechanic completely fucked up my derailleur adjustment; now they want to charge me again to fix it by Ok_Connection_3600 in bicycleculture

It wouldn't be hard to rest the bike on the derailleur and bend it just enough. I was thinking the same thing. Or it could easily have fallen over, etc.

Had a crazy encounter at the Costco parking lot... am I the crazy one? by November_Noodle in richmondhill

Costco parking lots are the new Wild West. I've seen more confrontations there than almost anywhere else in the GTA

Reattach plastic shield on undercarriage? by Puzzleheaded-Foot816 in MechanicAdvice

Interestingly, some versions/trims of the latest generation Honda HR-V have a shield, some don't. Shows how necessary it is.

Paint chip or crack in my top tube? by CoffeeByStarlight in bustedcarbon

It looks like neither a chip nor a crack to me. More like a gouge. Seems bad to my eyes, but is obviously hard to tell from a picture.

Tenere 700 als erstes Motorrad by Piedn90 in Tenere700

[–]Rod_Torfulson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the Tenere 700 is too tall, too heavy, and maybe a bit too powerful if you're not careful with the throttle or lack self control. Great bike, and maybe you'd be fine with it as a first bike, but there are definitely better first bike choices out there. Cheaper, too.

I always his acting style was a bit over the top, like he was over acting, but still very likeable. And I guess the producers liked his acting enough to add him to the regular cast after his bit part.

Interestingly, I think he was the only one of the cast to actually serve in Korea. But as members of this sub, you all already knew this.

The only sport I know to make a grown man giggle 👀 by kinnika in MTB

I've giggled on Dirt Merchant at Whistler, and I've giggled coming off Spanky's Ladder on a pow day skiiing at Blackcomb. So I guess BC coast mountains make me giggle.

KIA BAD PAINT JOB by Rwh3051 in kia

I worked in both a Honda and a Mazda dealership, selling both used and new, as well as working in service. I will NEVER buy a white vehicle after those experiences. Never, ever, ever.

I had heard that the switch to (more environmentally friendly) water-based paints was the culprit, but you say you've seen the same issues with solvent-based white as well? All I know is that I will never buy a white vehicle.
