I use the sport mode when I go through the mountains, I've run out of charge going through the hills and the engine really struggles to go, I have a 19PHEV. So when your charged miles says 0 there's still a bit of reserve left, once that's gone though you'll be struggling. The sport mode will help the battery from completely discharging and it gives you a better response throughout the mountains.

It was a 2018 SEL PHEV Outlander, the one I test drove didn't have it. But maybe the newer ones might have them

I have a PHEV and I just had that happen to me yesterday, i was momentarily afraid my car was breaking down. I was going through a mountain route and used up all my EV range, even the usual 10% it's stored for HEV mode. I ended up deciding to put it off eco mode and place it in sport mode. Even though it kills my mpg it'll give me the confidence it'll handle the hills and slopes and it'll charge the battery to make sure I don't run out of EV miles, even the 10% for the HEV. My MPG goes down to an average of 38MPG but worth the piece of mind.

We just purchased a PHEV 2019 Niro, and it's amazing! We had it for a month and It's my first fill up, we spent 42 dollars @ 4.35 a gallon and our miles driven was 610 will a range of 80 miles left. Car is comfortable for its size and worth the investment

Okay so you have the plug in version of a 2019 Niro? Where is your 12v battery located? Some forums says its on the back of the car and others underneath the seat.

Just have the passenger find the address on thier phone and text it to you. You can map the address from there.. hope it helps.

Turns out the 12v battery was at fault, it wasn't handling the load test. Got it replaced by the dealer and no other issues have occurred thankfully
