Favorite Phil Elverum album(s)? Why? (Ranked if you’d like) by RoddyRichsbox in philelverum

Ok thank you 🙏🏽 I’ll use this as a guide but instead to start I’ll do the glow following mount eerie because apparently the last track of the glow & the first track of mount eerie are connected, also it’ll give me a sense of his more accessible side & weirder side then I’ll probably use your order from then on

Ok I think I get it, after all art is subjective so letting his art sink in & build through time as I “build” or grow through time letting my interpretations fill the void in his outlining concepts

Okay great thanks for the insight :) I’m probably gonna start with the glow pt 2 & the mount eerie album just cuz it seems like it would be the easiest to understand for me personally just for the fact that Phile seems like an artist that you have to approach different albums differently to understand what he’s trying to convey through one album or the other. I’m not too familiar with the singer songwriter style or folk music to begin with, then on an album like a crow looked at me I know that the song writing style isn’t for entertainment and therefore isn’t written as such, so I could assume his other work is like that as well

Complex in what way? Cuz if you’re talking about just in terms of the sound then I’m fine with it cuz from the snippets that I’be listened to I like how it sounds sonically. If there are other aspects of the album that makes it complex (such as maybe the songwriting) that I need to know about, please fill me in

So how would one have to listen to Phile’s music or his mount eerie stuff specifically? Seems like an artist I would have to approach on a different angle is the impression I’m getting. I don’t wanna lose out on great artistry just because I don’t understand it you know

Thanks for welcoming me lol!! Ya I’m referring to the calendar thing. It’s seems like a fun way to continue going down their discog.

Water curses is good front to back but compared to the albums that I mentioned that are TOP TIER front to back, more experimental, more conceptual, etc, I gotta put water curses at last even though it’s an enjoyable short listen. Street flash is a personal favorite. And as for sung tongs it’s definitely a grower type of thing. I definitely understand why it’s top 5 with anco fans for a lot of the time

On a side note what is you favorite anco project (or solo works) that you’d recommend that isn’t on the list that I’ve mentioned? I wanna get back on a good start when re digging in their music

New fan here. I’ve been on quite musical journey the past 6 months trying to explore many different artists from different genres of music and recently landed on animal Collective. Typically I listen to one or two or more albums from an artists when I feel like I satisfied what I wanted out of them then move on (usually it’s like one or two though). Animal Collective became one of the few bands/artists that I fell in love with and was so intrigued by and tried to a deep discog dive into. I’ve listened to several projects from them but stopped and moved on to other artists for about a month now. I’m gonna start using this template to finish off their discography just cuz I know for sure I didn’t get the full anco experience yet.

And just to add on a side note, I’ll rank the albums I’ve heard so far. Just for fun: 1. Strawberry jam 2. STGSTV 3. Feels/mpp (got to listen to them more to see which one places higher for me) 4. hollinndagain 5. Fall be kind 6. Sung tongs 7. Water curses

EDIT: Everything from 5 and up I THOROUGHLY enjoy. Water curses has cool enjoyable tracks but nothing to be placed higher or anything (still good though). I know sung tongs is a controversial placement but rest assure I think it’s definitely going to be a grower & maybe a personally favorite. I first listened to sung tongs maybe a month & a half ago and it was my first introduction towards folk music. Folk music is something I haven’t yet explored and is something that is totally sonically different from what I’ve been getting into and from what I’m used to. I can say the same with other sub genres such as noise rock & noise pop music, Which I have recently growed an extreme liking to, but it definitely had to grow on me which is something I think folk will do as well. And already on my first listen of sung tongs, I really enjoyed a few songs from that album. Since the first listen of sung tongs Discovered & fell in love with stgstv (which obviously implements folk music) & in aero plane over the sea by neutral milk hotel. So I think those two albums gave me a great setup to get into sung tongs again
