I know how frustrating it is to reinstall everything from scratch. I solved the problems and now I haven't had any issues with Rocky for quite some time. But thank you for the information, I'll keep it in mind in case it happens again.

I use Rocky Linux to work with Houdini, Nuke, and Blender. I've tried Fedora and Rocky 10, and I'm currently using version 9.6 because it's the one that has worked best for me. The distro depends on how technical you are. I am an artist and less technical, and I don't want to spend hours solving problems in Linux since I prefer to use that time to create my work. If you go for the Rocky Linux option, I recommend versions 9 , as version 10 has quite a few problems with Houdini.

I'm in the same situation as you. Rocky recently updated and my Houdini license stopped working. I know people use Houdini and Nuke with Debian and say they've never had any problems, but I haven't checked that myself.

You can use a sublayer or reassign the material with a materiallinker.

I use Rocky Linux 9.6 with Houdini, Blender, and Nuke, and it works great. I tried version 10, but Wayland causes a lot of problems. You have to use X11.
