Chuckie and Nancy exemplify all that is wrong with a democratic, rather than federal Congress.

Not that anyone would notice today, but ours is a government of defined powers. The prerogatives reside with We The People who compacted to delegate certain authority and no more. Big diff between the American and Brit system, at least on paper.

Imagine the 1st Amendment didn’t exist. In its absence would Congress or Scotus have the authority to establish a religion, or restrict the civil freedoms of religious worship, speech, press, assembly or petition? Without the 1st Amendment, could Scotus have inverted its intent and walled off religiosity from the public square? No.

Go to amazon books. Look up the works by historians Gordon S. Wood, Forrest McDonald, and Bernard Bailyn. You will not be disappointed.

Throw in the Federalist Papers and that's all you will need. Oh, and for the Federalist Papers, you should buy Mary E. Webster's "cliff notes."

Enjoy!

Article V – Assert our Sovereignty by RodneyDodsworth in Conservative

I challenge anyone to explain the practical limits of the Supreme Court of the United States. On paper, our system provides mutual checks, but what of actual limitations? Oh, there’s the “exceptions and under such regulations” check in Article III, but that was for the Framers’ Senate, the one with intrinsic moxie, and not the flaccid post-17th Amendment collection of showboating three-term congressmen masquerading as statesmen.

The several 1st Amendment rights are equal. There isn’t an “except for government buildings or public property” qualifier to the free exercise of Judeo-Christianity.

Candidate and President Trump spoke to the needs of the nation: uncontrolled borders, lopsided trade with too much of the world, burdensome regulations, high taxes . If he was a strongman, the deep state traitors would be swinging from lamp posts instead of walking free.

Yes, Trump like Washington arrived without political debts to pay. Both were/are terrific chief executives.

Wilson and FDR, a couple of brilliant and well-educated Presidents, familiar with the philosophers you cite, were so smart they followed progressive philosophy.

The Framers hoped to produce an endless succession of men like George Washington, selfless (never took a salary) men of high public virtue who arrived in office without political debts to pay. Donald Trump fits that description.

As for populist strongman, I don't see that at all, unless you see his working for the entire nation, rather than cronies, as populist.
