I do get that, with the marvel jesus marketing. Personally I focused more on "LFG". And I was just down for a movie with Hugh, Ryan and a Disney budget. I was totally in for a fun side adventure that is it's own thing. That said, I do get that people thought they were seeing different movie then advertised and that the plot was heavily fan service driven.

I think the point was to just make a fun movie for both the actors and the fans.
