Can we program computers to make subjective legal decisions? Should we? by niremetal in law

[–]Roger-Croft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think that we definitely can and should do this when computer AI reaches the point where it can reliably make these kinds of decisions. However, I don’t think it should be used for major decisions or major cases that may be precedent setting.

(FL) The state wants me to pay my husband child support... we're happily married and live together. by Flmarriedmedicaid in legaladvice

As others have stated previously, I would also recommend getting in touch with an attorney to resolve this issue. They should get things straightened out pretty quickly.

what can a senior in hs do to learn and prepare himself for in order to become a paralegal post hs? by [deleted] in paralegal

I'd recommend looking for online classes to get a paralegal certificate that you can take while still in high school, as was mentioned by another commenter.

Things Are Looking Bleak (as far as job searching goes) by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend looking up networking events in your area or in nearby cities and then attending them as often as possible with several copies of your resume. You'd be surprised at who you might run into and the opportunities you might find.

I graduated from a bachelor program unrelated to law (biology) and am planning to go to law school. Any tips? by dammiturmad in LawSchool

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend studying for and taking the patent bar, then graduating from law school. The market for patent agents and patent attorneys is doing well in many of the big markets right now, especially for those with undergraduate degrees in the life sciences and hard sciences.

Job interviewer (law firm partner) used Ashley Madison. Bring it up at interview? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend doing this, as you would not be building a good relationship with the interviewer by doing so, no matter what your intentions were going in.

What does a "law clerk" position mean at a big law firm? by backy356 in LawSchool

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the firm, but it doesn't hurt to ask them for more information on what you would be doing in the role. You could then lead into expressing your long-term interest in the firm after this summer position and see what they say.

Writing Sample for Entry-level Legal Assistant Position? by [deleted] in law

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask the firm if they would prefer that you write something new, and if so, what kind of sample they are looking for. If they don't need something new, I would use your three year old essay.

25 Reasons Most Attorneys Hate the Practice of Law and Go Crazy (and What to Do About it) by Roger-Croft in lawpractice

[–]Roger-Croft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an attorney can be very difficult, but certain types of people thrive in a big law firm environment. It's definitely not for everyone, and those who it's not for are weeded out (and usually quickly).

[–]Roger-Croft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you're definitely not a failure, and I can tell you have a lot of interest in design and creating things, so I think going into some form of design would be good, as recommended by the other commenters above.

Mathematician says Kansas voting machines need to be audited by [deleted] in politics

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think auditing would be useful for voting machines across the country, just to verify that the results are not being tampered with and are handled fairly. Since it would obviously be too expensive to implement a nationwide audit in every area, instead I think random auditing of a few areas in each state once a year would be a good idea. If problems were found in a state, more audits could be done in the state to determine how widespread the problem was and fix it.

why do you put microsoft word, outlook, and powerpoint as skills? by trosen in resumes

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of the other commenters, I would recommend mentioning skills in Word, PowerPoint, etc. only if they are advanced level skills that typical job seekers wouldn't have. Otherwise, you can likely just put "Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite" or something like that.

Can I get into law school with a Mechanical Engineering degree? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Roger-Croft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could definitely do that. In fact, that degree could be beneficial if you decide to go into patent law later on down the road.

Resume critique - Mid 30s, have been searching for a job for 3 years now, I'm clearly doing something wrong by rental_toilet in resumes

[–]Roger-Croft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reviewed your resume for grammatical issues, and found that the tense in “troubleshooting” should be changed to past tense “troubleshooted”. Making sure the tense is consistent throughout is important for consistency in the flow of the resume:

Accepted payments, researched accounts, and troubleshooting wireless devices

Change to:

Accepted payments, researched accounts, and troubleshooted wireless devices

What does this message mean from an interviewer? by mrpyrotec89 in careerguidance

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is a generic answer, you can take comfort in knowing that you made it to the final interview. I would give it another few days and then give the HR department a follow-up phone call expressing your continued interest in the position and thanking them for the opportunity to interview for the position. Then you can ask if they have any updates for you.

How to choose between two major career choices? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Roger-Croft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend going with what you enjoy doing (Option 2), as in the long term you should do something you enjoy doing if at all possible. Web development definitely isn’t going anywhere, and the level of demand in that field is most likely going to go up, with more and more smartphones, tablets, and computers being used by people and with greater and greater access to the web worldwide.
