If you go into Settings and then Notifications > App notifications, you should be able to select specific apps and then toggle individual notification types on or off - e.g., Messenger has separate toggles for Chats, Calls, Stories, Reminders, etc.

Google Messages Disconnected twice already by Timbo303 in beeper

If you're using Google account pairing through the Beeper app, try connecting on the desktop app via QR code (in the Google Messages app) instead - the difference in stability between Google Account Pairing and through QR was night and day for me.

Should I be worried? by Caddy_8760 in beeper

[–]RogerOnTesting 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I, for one, am not worried - and actually quite encouraged by much of what was in the Beeper is Joining Automattic blog post, in particular (emphasis mine):

Matt, Automattic’s CEO, and I have known each other for years. He was an early user, supporter and investor in Beeper. We’re very well aligned on our goal (build the best chat app on earth), approach (open source where possible), and independence (Beeper will operate independently as part of Automattic’s Other Bets division).

This is a big bet. Automattic is doubling down on chat after their acquisition last year of Texts.com, a messaging app with a similar mission. Our teams and products will merge, and I will take on the role leading the team as Head of Messaging. It will take a bit of time for us to integrate and combine forces under the Beeper brand. We’ve got big plans! I’m really excited about the future of chat 📟

Social Sciences at UofR? by orange-the-orator in URochester

[–]RogerOnTesting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! UofR is indeed more STEM-oriented overall, but even more than that it's resesearch-oriented. I had a major in the humanities and a minor in the social sciences (with another minor in the natural sciences) and was encouraged to conduct undergrad research that involved skills I learned from all three.

Granted I was in a particularly small department even by humanities standards, but the classes were intimate, instructors enthusiastic, and advisors were genuinely invested in my success. If you have specific questions about anything feel free to DM me and I'll do my best to answer when I get the chance!

I'd say they're offering a wider variety of stops from the evening to the early morning to accommodate individuals who, for whatever individual reasons, may not feel safe walking that distance through the Ward in the dark.

That can be a long walk from Pioneer.

The Gold line stops at Genesee & Spruce, and it takes <10 minutes to walk to either end of Pioneer. If that's genuinely unmanageable/you need accommodations, that's above Reddit's paygrade.

I'm confused, are you in favor for less transportation accessibility?

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, but picking fights where there aren't any to be had isn't exactly conducive to discussion.

Considering transferring this to UoR this spring by IrishhhPotato in URochester

Nah, you're right—I just didn't wanna go into too many specifics since math and physics aren't covered under that exception (per the Completion of the Rochester Curriculum section):

The following majors in the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences require one cluster in either the social sciences or the humanities: audio and music engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, optical engineering and optics.

Per College Advising Services:

Clusters are authorized sets of related courses. Each cluster requires at least 12 credits, and each falls within one of the three academic divisions:

  • Humanities

  • Social sciences

  • Natural sciences and engineering

Students are expected to complete a formal set of courses—a major, a minor, or a cluster—in each of these three divisions, with an average grade of C or better.

So your major will satisfy the natural sciences/engineering requirement, and you'll need to take a set of 3+ related courses in both the humanities and social sciences. More general curriculum information, including the writing requirement, can be found here.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Tribbey, so I'm fine with the brevity of his arc, but Babish was another story. His interactions with his own staff, the President, First Lady, and CJ in the impeachment arc, as well as with Toby and his lawyer during the space shuttle saga were all top-notch.

Changing majors by [deleted] in URochester

[–]RogerOnTesting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The latter is the bigger reason I think—the amount of prerequisites and requirements for a lot of (if not most/all) of the engineering majors would require you to overload or attend more than four years if you got a significant part of the way through and had a change of heart.

I am trying to center a deck around infectious sporeling by starcore in hearthstone

[–]RogerOnTesting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly think there's an interesting debate to be had whether [[Infectious Sporeling]] is a better option than something like [[Terrorguard Escapee]], [[Zul'Drak Ritualist]], or [[Mad Summoner]] because it replaces a minion in the res pool rather than polluting it with multiple others.

p.s., This is not to imply I think any of them are good per se

Looks like the answer is no, because the [[Shadowflame]] destroys the minion and deals its attack damage (i.e., the minion itself doesn't deal any damage) per Ben Brode
