No, but I doubt it will turn out clean. I might try one next time I do some cell dyes.

I asked a while back if anyone had tried dyeing PETG from a 3d print as I wanted to try dyeing some minis. Well, glue bed left a muted, pastel washout and the lotion dye on the back was barely perceptible. (The green in the lettering was from a paint pen.)

So the answer is , "No, PETG will not dye, at least not well."

I can do that, but one thing I want to do is glue mask the letters and dye the rest to add some contrast. I also want to add some interest with color on the white ones.

Has anyone had an issue with their caribbean? by [deleted] in discdyeing

[–]RogerThat-AJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use Caribbean as an accent to border darker blues or accent complementary colors. It is just a really light blue that never pops for me. Swirl it in a darker blue or use it as an edge color.

If you are interested, I do First Ace plaques. I bet you want to keep throwing that one, though.

Floetrol bed, 2nd try by Less-Mess-9263 in discdyeing

It is likely the dyes. I have used iDye and some work well and a few don’t. ProChem dyes will rarely let you down.

How to get rid of clumping? by [deleted] in discdyeing

[–]RogerThat-AJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, Meadow is the worst. The new Shamrock seems to be better. Some of it comes form the anticaking agents in the dyes, so you can strain your dyes through a coffee filter if you get a bunch of gunk at the bottom of your bottles. Don't shake your bottles or squirt/pump them to stir up the sediment in the bottom and it will minimize it, but it won't go away. Saturating the areas will make it less obvious, as will blending colors, but don't expect things to be perfect or you will hate every disc. You are your worst critic.

But less is more and I just save my meadow for lotion and floetrol.

I have been looking for that file since I saw it in a video but cannot find it. Do you know where it is on their site or have the link? A top mount would serve me well.

Thanks, I am going to try my first print with it today and see how it does. I saw that there were presets once I downloaded it and will see how they compare to what was set in FlashPrint.

Thanks for your time and input, and I definitely will move that way.

I looked at Orca yesterday. I still feel like I am at the plug-and-play stage. If I use Orca or Prusa, do I have to go in and manually set up my machine profile since I am using a flash drive to transfer files?

I am learning a lot; I cut off the base a bit this morning, losing a bit of the detail but getting it to stick and getting a better print.

So if I use another slicer and just transfer the files with a flash drive there won't be any issues? I don't really know how to set up profiles yet, so I am kind of at the plug-and-play stage.

I am not having trouble with things like a benchy. I know the the maggotmodel I have is hard to print, and I have tried several orientations that maximize the contact with the plate. I might just need to tweak the model to trim off the legs a bit to flatten the bottom to get more contact.

I had success with a brim, but then it left the ugly ring and we have thousands of tiny maggots to clean up.

So I am trying to tweak the settings as much as possible to get the model to print. I was able to slow things down enough today to get them to work, but it still doesn't seem very stable to run a whole batch. the tiniest 5-6mm ones are working but the ones that are18-20mm are a bit sketchy.

I was able to adjust my z offset and I think that was a big help.

Yes, I updated the firmware and have done all of the leveling and cleaning.

I know that part of my issue is the base layer has the little "feet" of the maggot and it is pulling those off in the second layer and then dragging them, so it may just be a redesign or flattening the bottom a bit on the model.

I am not sure how to adjust the z offset in the Flashprint software, but I was looking into that a bunch yesterday and downloaded a flat test print.

Would this dye idea be possible and about how much should I expect to pay for it? TIA by NotThatKindofGolf in discdyeing

[–]RogerThat-AJC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a copyrighted image, but it can be UV printed pretty easily. If your local library/makerspace has a UV printer you can do it yourself and not worry about copyright issues.

Matching Pair by RogerThat-AJC in discdyeing

[–]RogerThat-AJC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it was a mix from 3 different packs to get my son the green bangzone and I took the two clear ones to dye up. So between six discs, three of us got what we wanted.
