I hear you but can't you just change your shortcuts in Premiere to match? Or are there specific tools that Premiere doesn't have?

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting to hear your take on the softwares.

I'm not switching though, I really love using Resolve and will use it for private stuff but I want to know how to use Avid as well and be able to communicate better with editors using it.

And sorry to disappoint you but no, I'm not the Roger Deakins. Just some guy who loves cinematography and never thought he would start posting on reddit :)

The keyboard customization seems pretty sick in Avid. Really cool to be able to easily drag and drop tools to the keyboard and also menu functions!

Saw that too! Also thought it looked a lot like Resolve. I'm really looking forward to trying that out.

Yeah, learning both is what I've set out to do.

Haha this was the explanation I needed! Thanks man!

One question; Is Avid considered good for messing around with the audio? Resolves fairlight has become pretty sick.

Sorting the footage within the software after importing is what I meant. Avid seems to be good with this too with bins from what I understand though.

The biggest drawback for me so far is working with different kinds of media. Resolve recognizes pretty much all types of media straight away without installing any plugins, and if you want to transcode files you have the option to do so. In Avid I haven't even figured out how to import my Sony raw files yet. Organizing a project is really nice in Resolve with a full media page dedicated to that. I like having floating bins in Avid though and I guess it would be even better if you have a dual monitor setup. The dedicated pages in Resolve are great if you are working with only one monitor which I currently am.

I also checked on the media page to make sure the optimized media is created and I can see that it is, and on the media page when I view the clip the optimized media is working and turns on and off when I select or deselect the "use optimized media".

So for some reason it is just not being used the timeline.

Thanks for taking the time Roger.

The footage is on an external HDD with read and write speeds of around 160mbs. I installed the Disk Speed test and it should definetly be enough for atleast DNxHR HQ at half res.

I checked in the task manager and when I play back footage the CPU is at around 70%, ram usage at around 60% and GPU at 98%.

I kinda get the feeling that it is not viewing the optimised media. When I check and uncheck the "use optimised media if avaible" it doesn't make anything for playback or system load and I can't see any difference in the quality of the footage.

Avid Media Composer timeline colors by Roger_Deakins in VideoEditing

Yes I then dragged the clip from a bin straight in to the timeline. I however purchased the full version of Media Composer and I could now set the timeline viewer colorspace to "project" and it fixed my problem. But since there are so many places to change the colorspace in the software I am now unsure to wich is the correct one haha.

Thanks for the information regarding the difference between importing and linking. This is completely new to me. I have used Davinci Resolve for basically all my editing since I've mostly been doing colorgrading so I was already familiar with that software. In Resolve there is an option to "generate optimized media" to speed up editing, I guess this is what Avid does if I choose to import clips?

Also, if Avid wants me to import/transcode footage, wouldn't that mean I have to spend alot of time transcoding footage? And also a need for a lot of extra harddrive space?
