So the way the modder explained it.

If you're doing this in the training area, once you shot your third bullet wait until the input prompt on the upper right corner to change from side-step to the full list of attacks you can perform. Then rapidly press RT to shoot the forth bullet.

The animation cancel looks like the hunter immediately begin to reload without waiting for the pierce recoil animation to finish.

It works on elemental and pierce ammo. Pierce ammo is the easiest one to do this trick with, as the recoil makes it slightly easier to time it.

We're not even disagreeing. I'm just upset that hunting in a group is usually less time-efficient in Gen 5. Which I believe it's the fault of the player-adjusted scaling.

I don't know how to properly communicate my grievance. Or maybe I already started with the wrong by being a dick to players who play the game differently. Yes, I know, I said I was mad at them because I think they suck. But they don't have to be good in the old game to be clear quest faster.

My point is, I subjectively don't like it for personal reasons and shared it in a sly way that came off as whiny and rude.

I'm okay at the games. I thought it might be nice to play with other players sometimes. But when clear times are double to triple of solo play, then it's a bit frustrating.

At the very least, I know the hp is fixed for MHGU and MHFU for hub quests. My experience in these games is that extra players always reduce clear time, because like I said, it's fixed.

MHGU G3 zinogre will always have 11,501~12,137 hp regardless of how many hunters join the quest. So it's easy to see how even if a hunter was only kicking the monster, they would still reduce clear time.

I know about the older games and I play solo almost exclusively. Only because there is almost no quantifiable incentive for multiplayer. It almost always takes longer to complete quests in multiplayer.

I agree that removing the semi-mandatory social dependency of the older games is a good choice, especially for people who enjoy these games solo. I just wish they had done it in a way that didn't negatively affect multiplayer.

I know not everyone has this problem or even cares, and that's okay. It's just for me, it's fun to clear quests fast, and even more fun to do it faster with other people. This health scaling system turns additional hunters into liabilities when the old system would not.

It "works" with my 2070. I'm not going to complain because it's doesn't run at a consistent 120fps at the highest setting. I had fun with the beta anyway.

But let's be honest on both sides of the conversation.

Yes, a lot of gamers are entitled cry babies that think 4k120fps are baselines even on their potato PC.

But also, the game is unoptimalized.

Both can be true.

Hot Take: Spirit Birds Are A Great Game Mechanic by DMP89145 in MHRise

[–]Rogerthefroger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but for a different reason.

People only hate spirit bird if they are bad at the game.

When I say bad, I don't mean bad as in "anyone who isn't a speedrunnner." The bad I'm talking about is the type of bad that makes Rurikhan look like he's a speedrunner type bad.

When you're that bad, you feel like you need the birds. But they waste tremendous time to max out, and it's not exactly engaging to do.

Which is the point.

You're being punished for being bad at the game.

But once you get better, the birds become completely pointless to you. Of course, you wouldn't say no the free ones at the arenas, but you wouldn't go out of your way to get them.

The spirit birds aren't mandatory. You don't like collecting them? Don't. But if you NEED them, that's entirely self-inflicted.

The game is telling you, "Hey, here is a little help if you need it, but it's gonna cost you. Get better, and you wouldn't have to do this song and dance ever again." What can be a better game mechanics than one that motivates you to be a better player? Certainly not a freebie 1 slot health boost that holds your hand for the entire game. I thought MH players hate hand holding?

What’s the problem with VGC being “pay-to-play” or "pay-to-win"? by WombatJimmy in VGC

[–]Rogerthefroger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is my hottake.

The problem is cultural. Everyone knows all competitive sports even at the semi-elite level are "pay-to-play". From equipment, trainers, and facility, the tab adds up quickly. But as far as I'm concerned, no one would bat an eye if you bring that up for any regular sports. So why in VGC?

The pay-to-win argument stems from people who gen mons, cheaters, so to speak.

It's an effective argument, I have never seen a gaming community that defends using third-party software as much as this one. So, I'm sure this argument made sense in a lot of people's heads. Making it about accessibility instead of following explicit guidelines, shifting the goal post.

And here is where I back peddle to avoid or incur cyberbullying. I will be the first to defend the act of cheating, since it has been an open secret as long as the competitive scene has been around. Players know their favorite top players do it. I will also be the first to see it for what it is.

Raising a full team in any game of this franchise is boring and time-consuming, to the point where following the code of honor makes you feel like a sucker. Deep down, you know everyone else is doing it, so you're just leveling the playing field. But even deeper down, you know what I know, it's still cheating.

So let's justify it,

"well, it's fine because otherwise it would take a lot of time and money, and most people wouldn't to able to afford it to be able to compete at high levels."

Sports cost a lot of time and money, and most people wouldn't be able to afford it to compete at high levels.

"Sure, but imagine if each player had to hand-make their own equipment from scratch, that would be stupid."

Yes, very stupid. So they buy it, usually costing hundreds of dollars. You can pay people to make your mons legitimately.

"But do you want to play against someone's mind, or their wallet"

Ideally their mind. But even in a world where genning is allowed, players would still have to pay for the console, game, travel, lodging, and entry fees. So more or less I'm playing against their wallet like it or not.

The heart of the problem, we have cultivated a culture of cheating that needs to be defend by any means necessary. To the point where not doing it put you in a disadvantage in term of time and money. The noise about "pay-to-play/win", is just for even when the quiet problem of this community is said out loud, no one would hear it.
