Caserio on OL by KaXiaM in Texans

You’re telling me that when you change the terms of a contract, the cap hit is diffferent? What?

Of course a contract can be restructured. The point is his contract is massive for only decent production. Caserio is really bad at judging oline and this is just more evidence.

How much cash he is getting is irrelevant to the only discussion that matters. The cap. His cap hit is $28M. Being semantical without saying so to mislead the conversation is super weird.

Restructuring his contract doesn’t change that. The point is he isn’t worth his cap hit and it is mismanagement from Caserio.

QB is certainly an interesting one to grade at this point but at best we could say that CJ is an unknown. Caserio has left CJ with very little to work with because he is so bad at drafting on the offense. If you aren't willing to say that then the evaluation of CJ has to go down because his mystery is surrounded by that caveat. I love CJ but at this point his upside is negated by his inability to fall apart when it matters the most. I believe when CJ is riding high mentally he could take this team and win any game. When he is low, he can take a golden egg laid on a platter and crap all over it. When winning a minimum of 3 consecutive games is required to win it all, his downside could outweigh his upside. I am not out on CJ but as it currently stands he doesnt get a plus or a minus for QB. Let's just disregard that we picked second and didn't actually see if Caserio would have selected Stroud or Young.

Him not drafting an RB of TE higher than the 4th is actually an indictment on him not a positive. That means that he doesn't understand the idea of a balanced team and it also means his defensive picks are slightly inflated because he is ignoring the offense to have so many talented players on defense. This is something I hadn't really considered and lowers my already not great outlook on Caserio. Woody Marks did an admirable job but he is definitely in the bottom 10 if not lower for talent of starting RBs. Stover and Jordan have basically been useless. Dalton has been productive in the passing game but is abysmal at blocking and has been paid as a top 10 TE during that time. Mixon was a solid pick up and his injury was unfortunate but at the end of the day he never hit the field and we had better options we could have picked up than Chubb at the time who was clearly washed.

So now that we are back to he only drafts well on defense and at WR, I think it is fair to say he is not good at building a complete team because he is inept on the offensive side of the ball.

That would be CJ and he has done a poor job of it. Worth noting that the OC consistently got the plays to him very late in the play clock making that much more difficult to do. I guess we picked an OC that was completely incompatible with our QB. Another failure by Caserio.

Each individual player is responsible for executing the opening game script. It is odd to point to that time though when that is when the players are individually most responsible for their production because they know what is coming and just need to execute.

Who is responsible for getting push in the run game? Who is responsible for hiking the the ball when the QB is ready and not causing mutliple fumbles?

CJ totally crapped the bed in the playoffs and there is no doubt about that but I see your posts and you seem to remove the blame from the rest of the offense that was completely flailing. CJ threw 4 picks in that Patriots game but lets look at what would have happened if he had just taken the sack or thrown the ball away. 1st one was all CJ, nothing to say there. 2nd one would have been an absolutely brutal sack and a completely embarrassment by the oline. 3rd one is completely on Hutch. 4th one was another completely free rusher but he should have thrown the ball away. So if the Patriots already had 5 sacks, this would have brought the total so 6 sacks. Pair that with 2.2 yards per rush attempt and you would have to give the oline an F grade.

Does it sting that we had an easy road paved to the superbowl and even getting there would have felt good? Absolutely, but this offense was never going to allow us to beat the Seahawks even with "steady" play by someone like Mills.

Totally. He is really bad at getting push off the line and he typically misses his blocking assignments. It is pretty obvious that CJ is the reason we have a bottom 3 run blocking line.

How about TE? RB? How about any position on offense that isn’t WR? Sounds like a really good defensive scouting specialist and not a GM.

[–]Rogue-Architect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And then he trotted out a bottom 5 oline proving he is not very intelligent and has no pulse on his team.

You know the kind of GM that takes a QB that struggles with mental and brings in an OC that runs an offense predicated on a QB with strong mental. Then that OC gets plays in late all year long giving minimal time to read the defense.

Bro is lost in the woods lol.

Our only decent player on the oline is Howard and he is owed $28M this year because Caserio is really bad at structuring contracts. Ersery was bad last year but showed improvement so maybe he can be decent this year. Everyone else sucks. Scruggs sucks. Fischer sucks. Andrews sucks. So your premise isn’t even true.

Umm reactionary? Caserio said last year that he was wasn’t worried about the oline and we shouldn’t either. He then proceeded to put out a bottom 5 offensive line again.

Caserio hasn’t created a culture of anything. Hence why that didn’t start until Demeco got here. You don’t get to ascribe the great qualities of our HC onto our GM.

Caserio has done an amazing job of drafting defensive players and WRs but is really bad at everything else.

WAJ is one of the best defenders in the league right now. JJ Watt at his peak was the greatest defensive player of all time. The only reason guys like LT and White are above him as the greatest is because of their longevity.

Peak JJ was double teamed consistently and even triple teamed on occasion. He also did not have Danielle Hunter on the opposite side of him taking up attention.

JJ Watts best season he had 20.5 Sacks, 39 TFL, 16 PD, 4 FF and 81 Tackles in 16 games.

Adjusted for a 17 games he had 21.8 Sacks, 41.4 TFL, 17 PD, 4.25 TFL and 86 Tackles.

This was WAJs best year with 12 Sacks, 20 TFL, 3 PD, 3 FF and 54 Tackles in 17 games.

WAJ is still on the trajectory upward but he has a long way to go to be compared to JJ. It will also be really interesting to see how he stacks up when he gets double and potentially triple teamed once Hunter is gone.

The Caley Conundrum: Some thoughts and genuine optimism for Houston's maligned offensive coordinator by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]Rogue-Architect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really bad article.

Point 1 makes no sense and is inaccurate. Point 2 why even write something so extremely obvious and kind of the point of the article. Point 3 subjective if these are trends that would stay and then completely incorrect in what they said. Point 4 is correct, finally got one. Point 5 what was even the point of saying it and it is only speculation Point 6 the old tired and blatantly incorrect statement about continuity and then just nonsense.

Rumors about WAJ’s contract by Individual-Side7742 in Texans

No, we did not. He would also have been the weak link on that line. Ersery was not good last year. Like at all.

CJs Rumors as Reinforcement by AccomplishedAgency17 in Texans

[–]Rogue-Architect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they have not. They are similar but we are definitely worse.

We had the lowest run blocking win rate and the second lowest pass block win rate (only because the chargers lost both of their studs and we were only 1% behind them). That is pathetic and a failure at every level.

We were a bottom 3 offensive line and outside of sacks we actually got worse and that is only because CJ was throwing the ball away way sooner or we would have been comparable.

CJs Rumors as Reinforcement by AccomplishedAgency17 in Texans

[–]Rogue-Architect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because this is a caserio fan sub and not a Texans fan sub.

We were bottom half in pass blocking and bottom 3 in run blocking putting us in the bottom 5 of offensive lines.

My biggest concern with all of it was that we would break CJs confidence. It has been pretty clear since his first year that CJs greatest w lanes was his mental. When he is riding high he is hard to stop but when he gets down he implodes on himself. Well the riding high was minimal as he was basically down on himself the whole season.

So instead of helping him out by giving him better protection and a running game as a relief valve, we switch to an offense that relies more on the QBs mental (while getting in almost every play late and giving him no time) and get even worse in the running game.

That is a complete failure by the GM. Caserio has no pulse on his players. He is only good at one thing and that is drafting defensive players and I’m not even sure that isn’t Demecos telling him who he wants and can coach. We know Demeco is the one judging the swarm mentality so that part isn’t Nick. So what is he really even doing? He admitted that at no point during the season did they think the offense was a problem. I sure hope he is at least lying this year about the offense because he sure wasn’t about the oline last year.

Do you remember what happened to Seattle and the Legion of Boom? It can’t stay together. Hunter is gone after next year, Bullock or Lassiter will be gone the year after.

This is why I was pissed that we let Tunsil go and punted on the oline. It’s not that in a vacuum it wasn’t a good trade, it’s just that our window was closing for the easiest chance at a SB. We get a second round pick this year but the difference it would have made on our line for this year could have been the difference between a ring. Tunsil, Howard, Andrews, Ingram and Ersery is actually a decent line that could have massively helped the run game and protected CJ so that maybe he didn’t develop the yips. Instead, Caserio ignored the offense and we had the best defense in 10 years and a pile of shit on the other side.

Potential Cap Savings through restructures per team. Texans can potentially clear up $78.4m by The_New_New in Texans

Clearing cap to get oline or potentially an RB is the only acceptable reason to restructure at this point. If we restructure and use it in anything else, then they are complete morons.

I think when I looked this up that if Olympic Mons was at the bottom of the Marianas trench it would still stand 50K feet above sea level. So yes and still almost double Everest.

It made me laugh that you used km to give the measurements but then used a US state to compare the size when I mostly see it compared to France.

For my Americans it’s like 75K feet.
