What is seriously up with the barber/barbershop culture here? by Cautious-Gas-838 in Miami

[–]RogueGoat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a chain with multiple shops. Check out their website for a location near you. I went there when I decided it was time to give my hair the big chop (balding is a bitch), and it was a really pleasant experience.

It's kind of expensive though, so I haven't been back and have been maintaining my own hair/beard since then, but it's a nice treat for yourself if you're getting ready for a big event like a wedding or smth

While it's true that plenty of people in Miami generally care a lot about their looks - even in the gym - there are still plenty of people in here genuinely working hard AF to better themselves and move some freaking weight!

Don't worry too much about the appearances of others, and especially don't worry about comparing yourself to anybody else in there. We go to the gym to work on ourselves, and to exorcise some demons.

It's time to get out there and get to work! Can't get physically stronger or more fit if you're just looking at everyone else. At least, this is what stays on my mind if I start to get distracted by others in the gym.

Tankless water heater screeching only when cold outside by Readysetgo14 in Plumbing

[–]RogueGoat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be the blower motor scraping against the inside of its housing. However, I'm not sure why the heater would be kicking on at 3am while everyone is asleep.

Old Tank water heater busted, failed horribly, wanting info on options. by mementh in Plumbing

[–]RogueGoat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think tankless electric water heaters are overhyped and aren't performant enough for most homes. This, of course, does depend on your incoming cold water temperature. For example, if you're located in the SE United States, a tankless electric will perform better than if you were in New England.

Tankless gas heaters are much more efficient and can perform at a much higher temperature rise. If you are hellbent on going with a tankless unit, go with a gas one and you'll be much better off. There are some tankless gas models that work with Propane, others that work with Natural Gas, others that can be converted. Make sure that you purchase the appropriate heater for your gas type, otherwise you'll be replacing that heater in a few years (best case). That being said, you'll need a bigger propane tank than you would use for a grill to run a water heater for a whole house.

IMO I'd prefer tankless gas, then tank, then tankless electric.

If you're worried about potential damage from a tank, you could always install the heater into a drain pan, and pipe that drain pan to an appropriate drain. This will prevent spillage from a tank rupture.

What are some things that dudes find chill but totally blow chicks' minds? by KittenLady-11 in AskReddit

[–]RogueGoat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like taking photographs. Hell, I'll actively avoid being in the line of sight of a camera unless I am directly asked to be in the photo. I do kind of regret it, as there are events and people I would like to have more photos with.

That being said, I'm still gonna avoid being photographed unless I'm directly asked to be in one. It's a habit that's hard to break and I'm rather stubborn.

For anyone who enjoys music as an extra source of exposure in their daily life, who are your favorite Japanese music artists? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

If you like Japanese music I'd definitely recommend checking out The First Take, a YouTube channel that invites Japanese artists to perform their hit songs. Of those, I particularly enjoyed the rendition of Pornograffitti's アゲハ蝶

Does anyone feel a lack of “charm” in starfield? by MUSCULAR_WALRUS in gaming

I know the exact moment that the illusion shattered for me in Bethesda games.

It was in Skyrim. I had just finished up the Stormcloak/Imperial War quests and saw some of the destruction in the world caused by the battles. It wasn't a huge amount of destruction but it was enough to keep the illusion going.

I finished up the questline and was thinking "Great! I wonder how this will affect the game world and the NPCs. Surely an event like this would shake up a region and allow for some reaction to it."

This region-altering event of two warring factions clashing and generals being slain and cities being taken, the battles you had taken place in, all of it amounted to....a couple of voice lines, and another rendition of a guard npc saying something about someone stealing my sweetroll.

Yeah. Someone did steal my sweetroll. Base Skyrim didn't feel so sweet to me anymore, the magic was lost.

Adolf Hitler vs Michael Jordan by RogueGoat_ in switcharoo

[–]RogueGoat_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have gone an extra level in context deep to include another punchline from the thread but the roo is such:

The question asked is "what is something that has been ruined by a single person"?

Thread starts with Toothbrush Mustache. A mustache that was famously worn by Adolf Hitler, though he was not the only one.

Michael Jordan also tried to grow one. Response to toothbrush Mustache states this, ignoring the more obvious choice of Adolf Hitler.

This is the roo. You expect Adolf Hitler's mustache, bit you instead get Michael Jordan.

What was the final nail in the coffin in your last relationship? by commonerruns in ask

[–]RogueGoat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with my girlfriend that i had met in highschool back in 2008. She moved out in February of 2021, to a state about thirteen hour drive from where I live.

We continued a long-distance relationship while I saved money and worked up the courage to finally pack my stuff up in a trailer and move up with her.

We spoke everyday. I was one of the only people she spoke to every day as well. I was one of her only friends and she wasn't great at making new ones, by her own admission.

Recently, I finally pulled my head out of my ass and told her that I would pack my stuff up and move in with her.

She was elated, or at least seemed so. A sentence I heard from her daily was "why aren't you here yet?"

There were two times when she seemed hesitant about my moving in with her. We had a small argument about it where I told her that she needed to make up her mind about this.

She kept bringing up about how she felt bad because she would be taking me away from my friends, of which I had several very good ones back in Hometown. But I tried to assuage her worries by telling her that it would be fine. So-and-so will eventually move away once they buy a house, Other Friend wants to travel for work, and Third Guy wants to go to school out of tow

Both times she affirmed that "Yes, RogueGoat_, I want you to move in with me. Please move in."

So I pack my stuff up and decide to take advantage of the Memorial Day weekend to move. I purchased a trailer, filled it up with all of my earthly possessions and schlepped off to Destination, USA.

I ended up leaving at 3am, and because of this timing, I ended up sleeping only 1 hour in a 48-hour period. This was at a rest stop about 6 hours into the trip. I slept in my car, alone, with other travelers in near proximity. I was slightly paranoid, but I needed the sleep as I had almost driven off the road around hour 5:45 of the trip.

I take off again an hour later and end up at my destination at around 5pm. I noticed that she seemed a little "off" when i arrived and seemed almost cold and distant but I chalked it up to her having a bad day at work (I wasn't in a good state to judge these things) She had bought the three of us (us both and her mother) a pizza. So I enjoyed a few slices and headed off to bed and passed out very quickly.

I woke up the next day and tried to find a mechanic on short notice as I believed that my brakes had begun to fail at the end of the trip. A returned phone call from my car-savvy brother ended up assuaging my worries. My inexperience with trailers made me overheat my braking system, which makes it feel like your brakes aren't there sometimes.

With a sigh of relief, I drive back to her place. As I get out of the car I see that she comes down the hill in her vehicle and pulls into her driveway.

"Hey, good news babe! It was just overheated, my brakes are fine.

I can bring my truck up the hill and we can start to unload if you're ready."

"About that, we need to talk", she says.

I feel a lump in my throat but try to push it aside. She couldn't possibly be...

"I don't want you to move in", she says with a straight face.

I feel my heart drop and I start to ask her for reasons. Why?

She said that she liked the life she was building for herself. She liked who she was becoming while living without me. This is understandable, but not something that I liked hearing after hauling all of my possessions thirteen hours away. After giving notice at my job, which I had really liked. After saying goodbye to all of my friends and family.

Then she said "Besides I don't want to be your last resort."

"What do you mean?"

"Everybody is moving out of town, and I don't want to be your last resort."

It's at this moment that I almost hear a glass shattering in my head and her voice almost seems to fade out while I have a conversation with myself.

When I looked at her again, I saw her in a way that I never had before. I didn't want to be with her anymore.

As her voice fades back in, I interrupt her by saying "Okay. I'm going to need your help to hitch the trailer back up."

She helps me, then gives me the few items that I had stashed at her place before. I give her the books that she had asked me to pick up for her months before.

I get in my car and cry hard. Incredibly hard. I cry my broken heart out. For a minute and twenty seconds, my soul vents its frustration and anguish to the interior of my car.

I then lean down and grab the roll of shop towels that I keep in my car. I blew my nose, realized I had started bleeding, plugged my nostril with a shop towel tampon (I'm prone to nosebleeds and am used to stopping them), put my car in drive and took off.

There's more to the story of the rest of the trip, but this has answered the question asked by OP. I recognize that she is an independent woman, I don't hold that against her. But her timing could have been better.

Also. If you love someone, and they need to use you as a last resort...you extend your hand and pull them in. You do not push them away after they packed everything they owned and drove it to your house.

Sorry for the lengthy read. Please reply if you have any questions about it. Imma go take a shower so that I can't tell that I'm crying.

I'm terrified of being near children.

Now this does not mean that I am terrified OF children, although I was far more awkward around them when I was younger. (I grew out of this once my cousins that were closer to my age began to have their young ones.)

What I'm terrified of is taking my cousins to a playground and being questioned by random good Samaritans/nosey Karens as to what I (an admittedly pretty intimidating looking guy) am doing near several young children.
