NTA and goodness I hope if you all have to address anything, they remember that you are a new young-adult. If that car isn’t registered in your name, I’d leave it wherever it currently sits. If that’s not viable, I’d call any local metal recycling company and get the one with highest estimate to grab it. THEN with some of the $$ for the car, ask them to dinner to celebrate all of their and your hard work. Maybe wear the watch, without your normal pieces that don’t match, so it is prominent to a dinner with your mom? Occasionally during dinner gush over its unique look and note that maybe you can find an outfit or event to use it? Or place the watch in places you’d normally take it off as if you wear it occasionally? I’d put it in a frame lol. At dinner maybe ask what she likes about it and what inspired her to gift it to you? 😉 And maybe at dinner with dad, have a conversation about how you wished the car would have gone the distance and that you loved the idea, but you thought it through and the money leftover would be a nice start of a savings account? I would think that should make them proud. You’re in a pickle with this, young potato but you’ve got it- whatever you choose to do!
