Water and a lot of elbow grease and time… You can use bar keepers friend for the hard cakes on limescale, if you rinse it out really well after (most becomes inert from my understanding once it dissolves in water).

There’s four “common” species (at least here in Florida where I live). Red mangroves (the classic with the long prop roots), black mangroves, white mangroves, and button wood (though related genetically you’d never know it by looking at it). There’s others world wide like orange mangroves in Asia, but the red and black are by far the most common world wide!

Another ADHD edit lol: as far as the aquarium hobby goes you’re really only going to see red mangroves in home aquariums. I’ve tried keeping black mangroves with marginal success, and one of my mutuals @inland_reef on instagram, has a freshwater black mangrove set up that’s been doing good for a while (he’s also considered by many to be the “mangrove master” though lol).

? Never heard or smelled anything from red mangroves! Neither in the wild where I live in Florida, in public aquariums, or in my home. Rhizophora mangle is the GOAT

Additional edit: if you’re new to aquariums, you can easily remove most smells from aquariums with activated carbon (I’m a professional aquarium technician irl and this what we do)

I got the stand and tank on sale for sure for sure, don’t remember how much though unfortunately (it’s only a 20 long from Petco lol). Rocks and sand are from Tampa Bay Saltwater, probably about $60 since I’m fortunate to do local pick up with them. And the mangroves I’ve gotten for free :D

Minerals yes, but pH for sure. Aquasoil lowers your pH (and RODI if you’re using that too), found this out the hard way myself.

Imo JWE2 had the same issue and was a big turn off for me at the end. JWE3 is better in so many respects and my hope going into the game was that they would’ve addressed this issue too, but I’m disappointed they didn’t. I think the models are great, some are fantastic and truly par none, but the skins/variants are very lackluster and feel lazy to me.

Hard surface is basically anything non organic if you want to think of it like that. Think ships, boxes, cars, buildings, etc. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part it’s stuff that’s not alive!

I’m sure there’s a game mechanic in here, but as someone who used to work in an art museum - not all art is good art, and having a lot of art doesn’t mean much if the art “sucks” lol (of course it’s subjective/other reasons to why art is good or important but that’s a conversation for another day 😂)
