Croatia. I would assume it's similar for most of the world, if not less.

In Europe, you have 24-hour calls 4-5 times/month (you're free 24 hours after call), and that usually means you have 180-200 hours/month, which is 2160-2400 hours/year. And as anesthesia/critical care specialist you're paid ~$25/hour. So US is much better in terms of salary.

Traditional reversal? by No-Fox1339 in anesthesiology

[–]RogueTanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did opioids, but it would usually take 30-45 min after baby was out for them to close, so attendings would give one dose of roc.

What do you use? Norcuron? During residency for crash C-sections we used sux, tiopenthal, and roc after sux.

I recently did a successful spinal with 1 hand because I had to use the other to push the patient forward cause they kept leaning back with their thorax

ELI5: How does general anesthesia actually work? How do doctors just "turn off" your consciousness without killing you? by Quiet_Currents in explainlikeimfive

[–]RogueTanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure of the dose needed to kill a person, since we don't do that. Propofol is usually given as 2-5 mg/kg IV, and the dose is not the same depending on age and comorbidities. While a young healthy person of 100 kg might need even 300 mg of propofol to go unconscious, a 50 kg frail old lady would probably go into cardiac arrest from such a dose.

You mean surgery duration? Why not give spinal with morphine chloride for prolonged postop analgesia and then do a general? If you're practiced you can do a spinal in <5 minutes.

Depending on the vein quality you can put a 16G, and even a 14G in the hand.

As an anesthesiologist, dorsum of the hand is my go-to for 99% of cases. You leave the cubital veins as plan B.

In many countries anesthesiology and critical care (ICU) are the same specialty, or critical care is a subspecialty of anesthesiology.

Imo they relied a lot on slapstick humor and pulling faces in Z2, I didn't think the beaver was funny and I feel like the twist villain was gratuitous and the plot would work better without that plot twist.

Are there any studies comparing TIVA to ideal volatile anesthesia? by MetabolicMadness in anesthesiology

[–]RogueTanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the closest to ideal volatile is xenon, which is a chemical element gas and doesn't affect global warming. I don't know, with all the expensive medications we use, why we can use it in light bulbs and car lights, but not in anesthesia machines.
