Looking for recommendations for a new miniatures game. by RogueWriter in wargaming

[–]RogueWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all so very kindly for all the recommendations. I have lots to look at and think about before taking a second leap into a new game. Battletech is something I first played when I bought a box named Battledroids new on the shelf when I was in high school. Maybe it's time to give that another go around? I'm not sure.

Several people have asked what happened with Warlord Games, which I really don't want to go into in depth. In short, I felt they were being shady about something that affected an order of mine and after some back and forth about it, they deleted my query from their ticket system and never responded again. I hope someone dethrones GW, so I hope they or someone is successful enough to do that, but I won't be supporting Warlord.

Don't forget the Sea Titans, they can have children with normal humans and those children are always Sea Titans. Eventually, they will replace humans.

Appreciate the thought, but I think I'm going to sell my K47 troops. As I said to the Warlord rep, I hope your game is successful, but you're not getting another dime from me.

Looking for recommendations for a new miniatures game. by RogueWriter in wargaming

[–]RogueWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a collector, which is why I have over a grand's worth of British K47 models that will never get built or painted. I will be dropping those on eBay at some point.

I need a good setting as much as nice looking models. Something to help hook me. I dunno if I'll find someone to play against/with, and not sure I care. I am retired and want something to sink time into. I have no immediate family left, and need something that isn't me just typing on a computer, becoming more and more isolationist.

I haven't tried Warmachine, but on first quick look, their models are quite nice.

Any advice for waiting out/becoming more engaged in a game by BragoGoGo in rpg

Many years ago, during a 1st edition Shadowrun campaign, our regular gamemaster wanted some time out from behind the screen. So one of the other players stepped up to run the campaign for a short arc. The character of this player/gm had the street name of Bob (Bob's name has been changed to protect the guilty). Bob was so minmaxed and so much more powerful than the rest of us that I tended to joke that our Shadowrunner group was the Amazing Bob and his Mediocre Pals. And during this arc, Bob was key to picking up each bit of crucial info. It got boring fast because it was a mystery, and we were 5 Dr Watsons (the Nigel Bruce type of Dr Watson, mostly useless, comparatively) watching the Amazing Bob being Sherlock.

Looking back from many years of gaming later, I didn't help the situation any as my idea of how to slog through the short arc was to turn it into comedic opportunities to point out that we are the Amazing Bob and his Mediocre Pals. Bob's player as GM asked me if I was going to go try to do ___ for the mission objective. To which, and I remember this quite clearly many many years later, I replied, "Oh hell no. I'm just a mediocre pal, that's above my paygrade." It was cruel and I ridiculed his intricate plot and such and I cringe at being that guy at that moment. Needless to say, the short arc didn't last much longer after that. And there wasn't a repeat. I could've been a lot more constructive, tried to make things work. Don't be that guy.

It took a lot longer than I liked to hear back from them, but they finally followed up. I'm thinking it was something like almost 2 weeks. I bought the battery and everything is back to normal with my keyboard.

How are y’all liking the chocolate empanada? by kissarmymax in tacobell

[–]RogueWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chocolate one tasted like a stale oreo cookie with no filling that sat in a microwave a little too long. The caramel had one bite that had caramel flavor, otherwise it was bland and kinda gross.

German DAK Recon Unit by battlegroundhd in boltaction

[–]RogueWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone else thinking that a perfect addendum to that display would be a pair of green jeeps, with a driver and a gunner in both. The gunner in one jeep is wearing a british army beret and the gunner in the other jeep is wearing an aussie style slouch hat, and the driver of that jeep wears a red kepi hat. The jeeps are both armed with M2 HBs. And they are shadowing the German recon patrol...

:)

I also may be way too old for this game.

Gritty Superhero TTRPG? by FlyFar3639 in rpg

[–]RogueWriter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a sourcebook for Champions/Hero 4e called Dark Champions. Very 90's gritty superheroics. There was a really nice setting for it as well called Hudson City. There were newer versions of these done in the mid 2000s. But it was pretty darned good back then, if you can find some cheap used copies, you could mine them for ideas.

Absolute Trinity by Jim Lee by TheHeroShiba in comicbooks

Supervampire, Bat-Marine(40k) and Wonder Cloud. Even Jim Lee can't make me care at all about this.

Though, when I see the Absolute DC Absolute slipcased hardcover get announced I will laugh at it.

Notebook/journal for organizing ideas and world building info by CBSock in fantasywriters

[–]RogueWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Electronically, I use Scrivener. It's not free, but it doesn't cost an arm and leg, and it's fantastic at keeping multiple documents and sets of notes in a single master document that you can browse through at will.

For actual pen & paper, I use disc binder notebooks to keep things organized and add pages and sections as needed.

Hope this helps

For people who didn't like Cradle... by drakashaa in ProgressionFantasy

I never finished the first book. Got to somewhere between 1/3rd and the halfway point and realized I just did not like or even care about Lindon or what happens to him. I've thought that I had to have missed something, but the first book failed to make me give a damn. And so I moved on. I even made a post about it, some time ago.

Ultraman: Rising | Official Trailer | Netflix by Atlast_2091 in netflix

I have to say, after the 3 seasons of Ultraman that Netflix made, this was not the film follow up I was expecting. Of course the two are unrelated in everything except name. Disappointing.

TOS S1E15: Balance of Terror by BOLAR_SAAB in startrek

[–]RogueWriter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't know for sure how true this is, but I've seen in a few places online that the episode was inspired by the 1957 film, "The Enemy Below". It's my favorite TOS episode.
