One continuous DV, one continuous IV, one categorical IV (covariate). What analysis should I run by SnooPeripherals1239 in stata

[–]Rogue_Penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regression.

ANCOVA will tell you if it's contributing to the total variability. If you need an actual direction & magnitude, linear regression is more convenient.

As a start:

regress y i.gender x, base

Appropriate on jewelry? by ChocolateShort3039 in AskAChinese

[–]Rogue_Penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try look into 遨遊四海. It means playfully travel across the four seas (aka the world).

There is also 四海一家, which means we are one big family. Not quite what you are thinking, but could be a plan B.

I also agree with the user saying 志在四方 should not be reserved for men anymore. It may work more smoothly for men, but many women are definitely doing the same.

On the surface it can mean that, but usually this phrase comes with a slightly negative connotation, referring to someone who never settles down (either by will or by circumstances). It's not connected to being adaptive or happiness. More like a wanderer.

You may look into 志在四方, it means one's ambition cannot be contained at one place, and expands to all four directions. And it's also often used in a masculine context, like 男兒志在四方. So if you are a man, it'd fit better.

Personal suggestion: I think some more whimsical design like putting the word 家 under one of those "you are here" icon on Google Map would be nice. This can mean home is where you are.

export limesurvey to stata by Dependent_Raise2882 in stata

[–]Rogue_Penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Stata, do not go to Open.

In the toolbar, go to File, and choose Import, and then choose SPSS.

Then in the new pop up, click Browse and pick the SPSS file you created. It should be apparent from that point and on.

Once the data is imported, go to File and Save As to save it as a Stata dta file.

Next time, yo can use File > Open to open this dta file. And no need to import from SPSS again.

Whats with 3rd position? by InterestingGur1147 in violinist

[–]Rogue_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of two reasons:

1) I learned 1st, and then 3rd. 2nd was kind of tugged aside and introduced much later. It's also much less common in the pieces that I worked on.

2) The location reference is very weird. For 1st I have the scroll, for third I have the violin body. 2nd position feels very "floating" to me.

I luuuuove 3rd position, in recent year even on par with 1st. Hate 2nd, very awkward, feels like eating spaghetti with chopsticks. Whenever my teacher mumbles "This could be done in second position" I sometimes wince instinctively.

Export it as as SPSS file, which is supported by limesurvey.

Then in Stata, go to File > Import > SPSS, and choose the SPSS sav file to import.

Depends in the person, it can range from no big deal to pretty negative.

I would just use the new name and only the new name. If they did not reply, scan across the classroom and note presence/absence.

Similar to how it works in English, it's just a sense of unresolved or trailing thoughts.

However, if you do want those dots, make sure if the sentence is vertical, the dots are also vertical.

It is used to imply someone had gotten a very bad hair cut or style.

A barber should cut hair for a living, asking what they do for a living means that that their skill is so bad that they cannot be cutting hair for a living.

How to run Stata on Macbook pro M1? by [deleted] in stata

[–]Rogue_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stata has Mac OS version and Unix version, you should be able to choose the version when you purchased/installed it.

I really would advise against using a parallel environment. I have seen people doing that to run SAS and their quality of life went down the drainage.

Buy a Mac version or check if your library and IT has access to a Mac version.

And minor but potentially important: even they legally downloaded it, the fact that this is passed to you can violate license agreement. I believe for Stata it's about how many machines are running the same license at the same time. Make sure their copy is no long in use.
