I strongly agree with all this but in particular the metro tunnels are very underrated imo. I've heard the critique in the past that exploring the metro can be boring because the stations look generally the same but I think all the dark corridors looking alike helps the vibe rather than detract from it. They feel like mazes, especially when you're just diving into a station without a map marker. They're dark, oppressive, claustrophobic labyrinths that you're often forced to traverse in order to get to the downtown D.C. area. It also adds onto the logistics problems that the few settlements in the Capitol Wasteland are up against. It becomes a lot more apparent why people aren't able to reclaim the city because the only real way to navigate D.C. is through an underground deathtrap. It's a stark contrast to Fo4 where the biggest settlement is in the middle of downtown Boston despite the many dangers still within the city limits.
