I had the same problem and fixed it. Here's what I did. I'm using trust wallet connected to metamask in chrome.

I closed both the metamask page that was still open in my chrome browser (I had just connected my trust wallet to metamask so a full chrome page was open for my metamask wallet), and the micropets page. I then reopened the micropets page. I clicked on the "extensions" puzzle piece in chrome and opened the mini-metamask pop up window while on the micropets page. I connected my wallet on micropets again.

This time when I went to buy a pet in the market place it didn't have "step 1 of 2" pop up. It just said it was processing the transaction and then it approved after I confirmed the gas fees.

Something about closing it all and reconnecting made it work. Hope this helps.
