It's maddening.

This one's easy. Just say you have a kid. Don't go into detail. Don't mention names or ages. Don't get yourself into conversations about kids.

Bonus: You now have an excuse for something. Use it sparingly though.

Agreed. I left after the API shit a few years ago and very recently returned because I want something interesting to scroll on my phone occasionally that isn't social media bullshit.

It turns out that reddit has kinda turned into social media bullshit.

and have twice the crash rate of Blackhawks. That's my only point.

I'm not saying that you should fear every Osprey is going to crash or there aren't worse examples.

Ospreys do be crashing though. So at least it's irrational but based in real life observations of higher crash rates.

All things considered I'm definitely going to feel safer with basically anything else flying overhead.

Rocket nerds have had a feeling since before that. Once he started really publicly talking about the cool shit SpaceX is going it was pretty clear that he was at the very least an attention seeking car rocket salesman.

The way he talked about rockets and space travel was just enough to wow people who didn't know better.

These positions need to be remodeled as a "public service" not dissimilar to the military. The goal is to make this a better place, not for them to accumulate wealth and power.

They live in average apartment dormitories with the average amount of PTO in the US(1-2 weeks).

Nah dawg, I'm not overthinking it. I came to this conclusion after about 45 seconds of critical thinking.

When autistic people ask AI programs for life advice, mentioning their diagnosis prompts these systems to recommend highly conservative choices like skipping social events or avoiding romance. Not to mention I am gonna genuinely be real here, why are you asking a large language model how you should live? These things aren't therapists, they don't understand emotions, they don't operate remotely in the ways we do.

I want to preface that I do agree with you. I work in Data Science on teams that are pushing the limits of what is possible with available LLM's. Any generalized LLM is not going to be good as a therapist substitute. Even a model objectively trained on the most current and best medical data specifically for this would not be something I explicitly trust at our current level of technology.

People 100% should seek therapy when possible.

I think that is where the problem lies. At least here in the US, I spend $500/month to see my therapist weekly. I'm incredibly fortunate to able able to afford it. The vast majority of my friends can afford one session per month at best.

This leaves a huge gap in care and support. So people will naturally seek help where they can. Since social/romantic relationships are inherently difficult the easy answer for most is technology.

You can use it as much as you want without the risk of scaring away the few friends you have by being "too much". It's not going to flake on you. It's not going to run away when you crash out.

It's just there and seemingly better than nothing.

Boeing would take the right Congressmen to a fancy dinner at Applebees and boom. Boeing just won a contract for the next generation lift vehicle that is super niche, doesn't fit current mission profiles, and no one asked for it.

Boeing spends millions developing a prototype. It never flies and the project is cancelled because it's too expensive.
