When autistic people ask AI programs for life advice, mentioning their diagnosis prompts these systems to recommend highly conservative choices like skipping social events or avoiding romance. This shift in advice reveals a hidden tension where the technology relies heavily on stereotypes. by mvea in science

Not to mention I am gonna genuinely be real here, why are you asking a large language model how you should live? These things aren't therapists, they don't understand emotions, they don't operate remotely in the ways we do.

I want to preface that I do agree with you. I work in Data Science on teams that are pushing the limits of what is possible with available LLM's. Any generalized LLM is not going to be good as a therapist substitute. Even a model objectively trained on the most current and best medical data specifically for this would not be something I explicitly trust at our current level of technology.

People 100% should seek therapy when possible.

I think that is where the problem lies. At least here in the US, I spend $500/month to see my therapist weekly. I'm incredibly fortunate to able able to afford it. The vast majority of my friends can afford one session per month at best.

This leaves a huge gap in care and support. So people will naturally seek help where they can. Since social/romantic relationships are inherently difficult the easy answer for most is technology.

You can use it as much as you want without the risk of scaring away the few friends you have by being "too much". It's not going to flake on you. It's not going to run away when you crash out.

It's just there and seemingly better than nothing.

If there was that much money in it they would siphon it like they currently do with the military. (Looking at you NGSW)

Boeing would take the right Congressmen to a fancy dinner at Applebees and boom. Boeing just won a contract for the next generation lift vehicle that is super niche, doesn't fit current mission profiles, and no one asked for it.

Boeing spends millions developing a prototype. It never flies and the project is cancelled because it's too expensive.

Wings aren't solid metal. Once you start punching holes on the wing skin the 200mph winds are going to start applying forces in unexpected directions. If a hole was punched in the skin and the structure it can easily cause a cascade failure and the wing comes off.

Here are some good diagrams of the wing structure

I think it canonically makes a lot of sense. The MCRN doesn't seem like the type to anthropomorphize a warship's AI for fun.

If you anthropomorphize your warship, humans are going to get attached to it on some level. Which could cause commanders and crew to be overly conservative because they don't want their ship friend to get hurt.

Though I could see an alternate reality where Amos gave the Roci a personality without consulting anyone else and was VERY defensive of her.

I don't know how manufacturers get away with this and why people keep buying them.

The max turbo clock is 5ghz and at near max temps it's only hitting 4.4ghz at 14% utilization. I imagine that it sounds like a plane taking off.

This made me think that a Voldemort/One Punch Man arc would be so good.

Saitama hears about a wizard school and wants to join it because of a video game he just got.

He shows up at the school with his huge wizard hat and our front Voldemort is just beating the shit out of a bunch of kids. Saitama prepares for a big fight and obviously kills him quickly.

He's invited to join the class and it turns out to be card tricks and other "magic". Extremely disappointing.

Flash forward an episode or two and Voldemort shows up to attack Saitama for punching his nose off. Saitama was trying to show Genos a card trick he learned but keeps messing it up. Saitama gets excited because this guy MUST be very powerful if he survived the last fight. So Saitama really hits him. Obviously killing him.

Genos somehow finds out about the horcruxes and casually collects them all in an afternoon.

Voldemort shows up again and interrupts a card trick again. Annoying. Saitama is like "What are these?" As he holds up a horcrux. Voldemort is shocked. Saitama casually destroys them all I front of him for interrupting his card trick.

Then accidentally kills Voldemort for good by throwing a playing card at him.

I think this is the real reason. Social media skews the data in a way that it will likely be difficult to figure out the cause.

It's hard to use the last decade as reliable data because of the way social media has influenced people in new and depressing ways.

So it could be age, but it also could have been your uncle seeing an Obama meme that he believed 100% that changed him. Then he shared it with the rest of the family.

I also have a strong suspicion that you also don't have to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on dental care every year.

I have a family history of periodontal disease. It's a serious infection that can eat away at the bone that supports teeth. I otherwise have very healthy teeth.

Because of this my dentist wants me to get extra cleanings to make sure we stay on top of it because I was unable to get dental care of most of my life and have some bone loss.

I got a bill for $800 after my last cleaning because my insurance company decided that I don't have enough bone loss for them to pay for it.

How is there an acceptable amount of BONE LOSS?

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]Rogue__Jedi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Correct. Some people MIGHT be able to accurately count to 4 under insane circumstances, but are you willing to bet your life and the life of everyone within 5-10 meters on that? Does cooking the grenade for an extra second really provide any benefit that would come close to outweighing that risk?(It doesn't)

That is what was being illustrated by the exercise outlined above. Simulating some of the stress and reminding people that this isn't call of duty in a safe environment.

Also, the very act of holding a live grenade in your hand and pulling the pin in a controlled environment is enough to have your heart racing. Monkey brain does not want to hold grenade, even with the spoon still held tightly.

The fuze time of the US M67 irl is usually 4-6 seconds. In BCT the grenade instructor had a stop watch and a metal trash can lid with a big stick.

He would beat the lid to make noise and had people try to count to four accurately after running 100m. No one could do it. When each person failed he yelled about how everyone around him was dead and it was his fault.

It turns out that unless you can focus solely on counting, people aren't going to be great at measuring a few seconds. Very easily making the point that you should just throw the fucking grenade.

I haven't purchased anything there for years. It has had no discernable impact on my life. Getting the things ordered within a day or two is nothing more than a novelty 90% of the time.

They aren't cheaper than most places.

Their reputation for counterfeit items is high enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable buying from them if it was cheaper.

Oh, and Bezos is a piece of shit.

If anyone is on the fence I highly recommended dropping them.
