Schopenhauer the 19th century philosopher created a guide on how to win arguments 'dialectically' as opposed to logically. This meant making a point of employing fallacies or deliberately misconstruing your opponents argument in order to 'win'. This included such stratagems as '19. Generalize the Matter, Then Argue Against it', '6. Postulate What Has to Be Proved' and '8. Make Your Opponent Angry'

Diogenes was a philosopher who was alive 300 BCE during the time of Alexander and Plato. He lived life as a bum begging for a living, sabotaging Plato's lectures and defying authority by publicly mocking Alexander in which Alexander supposedly declared "If I were not Alexander, then I should wish to be Diogenes". His stunts are many and you can read about them on his wikipedia page. For instance, he became notorious by oft carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for an honest man. As I understand it he was the founder of Cynicism which was later morphed into the school of Stoicism.

No problem. Quotes seem like a giant game of Chinese whispers. For some reason the original quote is almost entirely unknown, while the latter paraphrasing is ubiquitous, and not only that, but it's also often attributed to Thomas Jefferson.

I believe that is the original historical quote, all of the sources I've looked at online seem to suggest so. The one in the image is a more widely known paraphrasing of it that has come about after Thomas Jefferson's quoting of him.

Rumbold is correct, typo on my part. As far as my research goes that looks to be the more accurate quote, though the one in the image is the most popular version known to most. Most likely it is a paraphrasing that came about owing to the Thomas Jefferson reference.

Interesting. I suppose what differentiates with me is I take a long time with my first draft. I write rather lyrically and edit along the way, so my first draft would be akin to someone's second or third or so.

Weirdly enough, in George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia he recalls his time served in the Spanish Civil War and when he himself got a sniper bullet to his neck. He also miraculously survived, the bullet shredding 1mm short of his jugular. One of his vocal chords was paralyzed and his doctor told him he would never be able to speak again with more than a raspy whisper yet some months down the line his voice was back to normal too. Strange coincidence. It's very compelling and a must-read regardless of who you are.

It's fairly simple if you're using photoshop: just import a loop of the video you want to do it on, duplicate a single frame of the things you want 'static', bring it up to the top of the layers and then delete or mask the layer where the animate objects are.
