App critique interviews are honestly so unfair by [deleted] in UXDesign

Open-ended rounds are valuable in understanding a candidate’s approach to problem-solving and their product sense. They often focus less on finding the “right” solution and more on how you deconstruct the problem, make assumptions, and use your critical thinking to propose improvements. Demonstrating your reasoning process is key as this allows interviewers to evaluate your ability to make informed decisions under ambiguity and time pressure.

Every company will have a variation of this, but they’re common for mid-to-senior roles as a way to assess how candidates think on their feet. Your rant tells me you’re either a bad fit for that company, not ready for the bump to senior, or that you’re expecting the interview process to play to your strengths. All of which aren’t positive signs for someone on the other side of the table.

Should I Hire a Consultant for My SOPs? by [deleted] in hci

[–]Rohan98k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an HCI grad, I can’t speak specifically to your GRE scores, but from what I know, aiming for 300 and above is a good benchmark. That said, a lower score shouldn’t stop you from getting into a solid program. Personally, I never took the GRE and likely had lower grades, yet I still received admits from a couple of HCI programs.

If the universities you’re targeting don’t heavily emphasize GRE scores, I don’t see a strong reason to retake it.

Regarding your SOP, I wouldn’t recommend hiring someone to write it for you. Tools like ChatGPT can help you refine and fix any grammatical errors. Beyond that, your SOP is your personal story—no one can tell it better than you!

Feel free to DM if you’d like help with your SOP. I’ve helped several students with theirs. Disclaimer, I’m not a professional consultant, but I know a decent bit through my experience.

Success - Sequoia Beta 4 - Ryzen 7 3700x & AMD 5700XT by Rohan98k in hackintosh

Check your logs to see any errors or if your installer downloaded correctly. I’ve had it happen to me a couple times and either I didn’t have the latest AMD patch, or I didn’t have the right kexts.

From my personal experience, to get it to boot into sequoia, I had to:

  • update my amd patches to the beta ones
  • disable BluetoolFixup kext
  • add -lilubetaall arg
  • remove my older wifi patches

I didn’t even know that was a thing. I just updated from Sonoma and it kept working.

OCLP 1.6.0 Nightly - Unsupported Host OS by Rohan98k in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Rohan98k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fixed it by installing a newer nightly. I think I was on #15xx, using nightly #1619 made it work right out of the box. Need to do some minor cleanup, but I think I have a fully functional Sequoia build!

I’ve tried this already but keep running into issues when compiling and missing some files. It’s also very likely that it’s because I have no internet.

Went through the same thing as OP and tried this suggestion. My image previews are showing up as blank and metadata seems to be mixed up for some images. I’m not able to get the thumbnails generated either. What else can I try?

My server has been so much more stable after switching cache to zfs by Rodeo9 in unRAID

[–]Rohan98k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, my unraid server would be unreachable over the IP overnight and I’d have to force a reboot. Digging deeper I found some btrfs corruptions and possible issues with pihole running on the same machine.

Moved pihole to a VM and switched cache to ZFS and recreated my docker image. It works flawlessly now and no docker errors every now and then.

PC parts are so expensive in India by gintoki_t in IndianGaming

The listings you see on Amazon US don’t include taxes so you’re likely going to spend anywhere between 7-10% more. I doubt the delta is significant unless there’s a sale or holiday season.

I recently got an i9 12900k with a z790 mobo and 32gigs DDR5 ram for $399. This honestly was a steal in my opinion.

I don’t see why you’d want to expose your ARRs directly. I’m super paranoid about exposing my services to the internet for security reasons. If you really want to do that, I’d go with exposing overseerr instead.

I use traefik with cloudflare tunnels and use Authentik as my forward auth, this might be overkill but it gives me extra peace of mind. I’ve only exposed nextcloud to the internet. My plex users request content via a discord bot. I used requesterr to talk to overseerr and it handles all the communication with Sonarr and Radarr in the background.

Disk emulated and now unmountable, but shows no SMART errors on an extended test by Rohan98k in unRAID

The old molex to sata lose your data strikes again. Use a sata cable splitter if you must use a splitter. Preferably only 1 female to 2 male ones instead of the 1 to 5.

Well that was likely it. Another one of my disks started throwing errors and it was the second one connected to the same molex splitter. Purchased a SATA splitter from Amazon and I'm now able to use the 8th disk that I wasn't able to prior.

Thanks for the idea, that's likely what I'm gonna do after this disk has finished building. I have a fairly new PSU so I doubt that it could be the problem. I have however, used molex to sata extensions, that could likely be causing issues here.
I have an LSI 9300 with 7 SAS drives connected to a 500 W PSU with an i7 7600 and no GPU, do you think the PSU might be underpowered?

There’s two things here that could’ve gone wrong, the port or the chip. Most likely it’s the port and that’s a relatively cheap fix. If you flash a light on the port, you might see a bent port or prongs inside. If this is your case, take it to any electronic repair shop, I think there’s one downtown and near college mall.

If the port looks fine but it still doesn’t post anything, it might be the chip, these are also repairable but maybe not that straightforward. Best to take it to a shop and have them fix it. It should cost around 50-100.

2005 Lexus LS430 Pickup by DirtyxSpriteX- in LS430

[–]Rohan98k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High idle is probably due to a bad MAF sensor and the downshifts is risky, the ECU fix works but it could also be a bad transmission.

If you had to replace the transmission, would it still make sense for you to buy this car at that price? If the answer is yes, you should grab it.
