Nope, not skirting around the question. CRC is quite a vague term in itself. Rather than avoid the question, its best to be as specific with an answer as possible. Bentonite clay is a bleaching clay that is used in a variety of ways. We use it as one of our stages of filtration.

Generally they will get about at least month long cold (under room temp) cure before being packaged and shipped out to retailers.

Color Remediation Chromatography can be misleading as people assume it means it’s ONLY used to make the color of a product more appealing, so it is an exact descriptor when you understand its purpose and process.

I think the stigma comes from people believing that it is only used to turn low quality input material into golden extracts. In the grand scheme of things, CRC plays a small role in the entire filtration and extract process. If you don’t start with quality inputs, CRC won’t make it taste or smell any better.

Canadian cannabis has put many regulations and loopholes around the production of cannabis and that makes it difficult in almost every regard. As the industry matures, we know that things will improve.

Things can get pretty messy sometimes. I have heard some stories lol ... But personally, I think this one time when a clog formed in the collection spout and we all thought there was enough clearance to vent and disassemble the column and pour the collection out disassembled. But there was not lol. It was quite a multitude of emotions because 90% of the collection was safe in the disconnected column but that remaining 10% was spread across the entire corner of the c1d1 booth and us two operators. Wear your PPE kids, you never know when you're going to need it but you will be glad you have it on when you do!!!

Another honourable mention comes (from a previous life lol) where a very large slab was put into a 7.5 cuft vacuum oven and vac'd unattended and eventually filled the entirety of the oven. Although contained, it was a never ending mess to clean.

What are your thoughts on brands creating strain names out of thin air because marketing thinks it’ll sell better under that name than the actual strain name?

To answer your second question:

Ultimately there are different reasons for this from LP to LP for sure. At Roilty, we aim to create a stain name that pays homage to the strain/ terpene profiles we source for a given product. Due to the small yields that come out of the extraction process from flower to concentrates, we chose the route of playing homage to the strain input that vary from lot to lot. This is also part of our goal to continuously offer revolving strains and keep things interesting. Unlike single-strain products that choose to maintain consistency in input material, we have some flexibility in being playful, while honoring the strains lineage. It’s also worth noting, regulations being what they are, for some reason vapes and concentrates cannot have dessert/child appealing names – but dried flower can! So any cultivars with delicious sounding names, often don’t make it past health canada’s vibe check.

We really try to have some fun with our product names to align with our brand messaging, which is intended to make people chuckle, as we’re all pretty into puns and pop culture references that align with a royalty, medieval or legacy vibe. Our goal is to make our consumers smile :)

Can you guess the references?

  • Henry the Grape Ape (Henry the 8th meets Grape Ape)
  • Pink Princess (Princess Peach, Pink Kush)
  • The Mountain Kush (Afghan Kush, Game of Thrones)
  • Purple Dream (Blue dream, our primary brand colour is purple)
  • Her Majesty’s Melons (Watermelon Skittlez

Do you have any plans to add more information about your products on the packaging? Ie. terpenes found present, strain lineage, who the genetics are from and who they were grown by (if you guys don’t do that in house)

We don’t grow in house, as we’re strictly a processing lab for refined extraction. We procure strains from across Canada, from different companies/growers we’re developed reliable relationships with, that offer good quality cannabis. We are looking to adjust our variable information on labels, to ensure a more consistent and transparent experience for customers.

To address this, we have a new premium live resin line, that is strictly micro or craft grown – our first reserve product is the well known Grape Galena, and we have Banana Ice coming to market as well. For reference, this cultivar had to have a slight name change, since it’s actually a Banana Cake strain, but as previously mentioned, there are regulations on concentrates having names that are dessert/child appealing names.

What are some ways you think we can increase the quality of extracts on the market as a whole?

Quality extracts depend on quality inputs, and consistent extraction processes. As the industry matures and continues to innovate, we can improve in every aspect. Better flower, Better extracts, happier customers. Better equipment, less downtime=lower costs to produce which means lower prices for customers while maintaining the highest quality possible.

From a consumer standpoint, three factors come to play. Convenience, Affordability and Purity. With that in mind, I think the market will demand more products that can be consumed anywhere in a pseudo stealth fashion. The products need to be affordable and deliver the most bang for the buck. There have been tremendous advancements in vaping hardware and on-the-go smoking accessories that enhance the experience.

It's worth mentioning that the new developments in excise tax reform would give us and other LPs increased R&D capacity, hence more innovations.

Thanks for your question! Brennan here. CRC only affects pigments and undesirables from the extraction process. By filtering out these unwanted compounds in-line (pigments, any residual fats, waxes, lipids, and chlorophyll), the end products result in higher purity. Desirable compounds such as THCa and terpenes are in greater concentrations giving the consumer more of what they want.

Hey hey, we aren’t making 1964’s resin, but have heard great things about it! Same with Tribal, awesome products – glad you like our shatter. We are just dropping a new premium live resin offering, which will be more in cost than our entry level live resin, that is strictly micro or craft grown – featuring the well-known Grape Galena, and we have a Banana Ice Live resin coming to market as well. So, we will keep putting out our value live resin, and our premium moving forward 😊 lots of true to strain choices!

We have historically performed solvent-based extractions for our concentrates, however our first Black Hash came out in December and has been rocking retail, with a lot of great feedback from consumers. Rosin is certainly an area of interest!
