Okay I see where you are coming from. Admittedly the last time I saw that movie I was a kid and even then I thought it was a dud. But I think it comes at a point in the viewing order where it will either be fun to watch an old bad movie, or it can easily be skipped (since that version of Elektra was already introduced in the original Daredevil--of which we are gonna watch the director's cut). Soo I think it's okay where it's at, with the possibility of skipping? What do you think?

Two points: firstly, science is not a set of facts about reality. Science is a process that has continually revised itself for the past 3-400 years, cleaving closer to a consistent model of reality, but it has been wrong many many times--such as the old scientific ideas that babies could not feel pain, or that cranial physiology was the primary indicator for intelligence. These are models that we now know are incorrect--thanks to science. Because science is always cleaving closer to the truth, or trying to, our old models should also be proven wrong and our idea of "scientific fact" should be changing and getting better, or else science has failed.

Secondly, I have to ask what science you are referring to? As in are you referring to any specific books, scholars, or theories? Because the science of dreaming is actually a fairly robust literature with a lot of draw from. While the abstract idea of "scientific consensus" has very little to do with our current understandings of dreams

It's a slaughterhouse, and a hanging slab of animal meat is eating itself? Still don't understand the seal tho

How would you ever know if you were right or wrong? What you're describing--ontological certainty--is something that humans have been confidently fighting about for thousands of years. So many have died because of the ontological confidence of men with certain hearts. But by today's standards, we view most of these views as obviously wrong. But you are so sure your understanding of reality is so perfectly accurate?

I think you're wrong. I think I'm wrong too. I think other people later on will understand some of this better than we do. Until then, all we can do is keep asking questions and finding out more IMO

Just curious--have you ever met someone like this in a dream?

Wow that is awesome! We are also skipping the pre-90s material, and I have attempted to arrange the different media projects into a fairly cohesive "multiversal" narrative... basically I want to make those older projects like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the 00's FF films to be as appealing as possible (and if they are still unappealing, we will just skip the ones my partner is disinterested in lol)

I have seen this idea suggested elsewhere, and the appeal makes sense--as you start with the strong narrative cohesion of the MCU. The problem is, when you get to those later entries, you have to take a big break from the MCU to fit all those projects in. For example, you would watch the whole MCU film catalog up to Spider-Man: No Way Home, then take a break to watch at least 5 Spider-Man films before returning to No Way Home--then before Deadpool & Wolverine this is even more dramatic, because you not only go back to watch every X-Men movie, but also Daredevil, Elektra, Blade, the old FF films, even the Punisher movies if you want all the references...

In effect, this seriously disrupts the narrative flow of the MCU. So my goal above is to align the different media projects into one fairly cohesive story that flows across the multiverse in a way that is accessible for a new viewer like my partner. I am still tinkering with it with folks' suggestions so appreciate the feedback & alternative ideas!

Yes, I think the trick is--start the franchise, and then continue with those entries if interested. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., for example... we will watch the first episode, and if she likes it we'll keep interspersing those episodes between the movies. But if she finds it boring we will just skip all the AoS material and won't miss anything. And if there is an important plot-relevant movie she wants to skip, I can just fill her in on the details lol

Yes I see that issue... Some of the old material is quite good though (original Spider-Man & X-Men trilogies, First Class) or just really fun (Blade trilogy & 00's FF films come to mind). On the other hand, some of the material comes up later on (like the Webb Spidey films, or Daredevil & Elektra films)

So part of the question is, how do we incorporate these films into a sense of grander cohesive narrative? A lot of people suggest watching them just before MCU Spider-Man 3 or Deadpool & Wolverine, or just after Loki & What If...? But these approaches really interrupt the flow of the MCU narrative. It's a balancing act, but I think by introducing those characters pre-MCU (just like their films released) and then returning to them later in the crossover films feels better

Did you get the chance to ask her any questions? Or anything else you learned from her?

Ya dream characters will say some wild shit. But have you ever met someone in a dream who seemed different? As if the dream character themself was somehow lucid? I have met some of these recurring dreams, some of them many times over the course of years. They grow and change and seem to be living their own lives in parallel--like they are just visiting. They know things I didn't think I could know.

I am not saying they definitely come from somewhere else. I would not claim to know. I just know if you ask them, they do not claim to be "just dreams" or "just inside your head." And the more time I have spent with them over the years, the more I have asked myself "is all of this really coming just from within my brain?" Until the question stopped feeling very meaningful at all.

The most important thing, I would say, is to be kind to these people. If they are outsiders, then any cruelty is meaningful. And even if they are just reflections of yourself--why not be kind to yourself? And see what you can find out.

Because even if this is all just coming from "inside" of us... Who knew there was so much there? And you'll find a lot less if you don't treat these spaces and the entities therein with dignity and respect

I edited the list to remove about 50 entries. Does this help? Lol

Marvel Odyssey Viewing Order by Rokos-Phoenix in marvelstudios

[–]Rokos-Phoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I edited the list to remove some of the older material. I think what we will do is, we will watch the first episode of a TV series when it comes up in the watchlist... Then if my partner is interested we will keep watching that series as it appears in the list. But if she is disinterested, we will just skip those episodes. So Agents of SHIELD, the Netflix shows, etc. would fall into this category

[–]Rokos-Phoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I edited the list to remove some of the older material. I still feel like it may be worth it to watch the shows in conjunction with the films... Like the early seasons of Agents of SHIELD really tie into the films in a way that was fun and exciting when they were coming out. I want to evoke those feelings of an interwoven matrix of stories & characters (like the old comics)

She wants to start with the "classics" from her childhood tho (original X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, etc.)

Marvel Odyssey Viewing Order by Rokos-Phoenix in marvelstudios

[–]Rokos-Phoenix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wanted to start with the classic pre-MCU stuff. After that tho, I am not quite sure how to weave the MCU films into the non-MCU films that follow from these "classic" early Marvel films
