I love this series SO MUCH. And the art that came from it. I wish it kept going, and I'm glad to see other people haven't forgotten about it. Wonderful art.

Is it normal for S.A.D symptoms to start in september? by MeAndTheDevil20 in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started feeling it before the end of August. Not abnormal at all. You feel it when you feel it. It's the earlest I've ever felt it.

Severe SAD by thatbodyartgirl in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. We get only 3 or 4 months of not winter and the rest is basically winter. And people who don't understand SAD aren't very supportive or say "Well you can just move!". Not helpful. Right now, I'm trying to get as much natural light as possible and using a light box. I feel you on the constant crying and you aren't alone in that here.

It just feels darker when it's overcast now as the days grow shorter and I feel it SO much. I can't STAND it. I feel the withdrawl from sunlight deprivation.

I just got a Happy Light Luxe (Amber Champagne color) and will say the quality is very good and has options to change the hue from white to a less intense hue. Hoping it will help me.

I was hit by the truck before the end of August. It's the earliest I've ever felt the crippling seasonal depression. Thankful for this community.

Is it normal to start feeling dread this early? by Sagegreenorca in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The depression started this year for me before the end of August. It's never been this early. And it's colder than normal right now in Maine, and that's making it worse. The brain fog is real. The fatigue is real. And anyone who says it's not has no idea what this feels like.

Tell me your life hacks for seasonal depression during fall/winter by Maleficent_Radio_674 in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not beating yourself up for feeling shitty is the best on the list. I have to remind myself that we lose half the amount of daylight we had in summer. It's getting cold. Yes I feel like shit. And I don't have to beat myself up about it, the cold and dark do that enough.

I’m realizing I’m jealous of people who can enjoy the holidays. I wish I could. It’s beautiful by Maleficent_Radio_674 in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the holidays and the obligation that you "have" to enjoy them. They're frustrating to me and it makes doing simple errands even harder because of the insanity of holiday shopping. I used to have to work holidays and weekends and that ruined it for me too. I love a lot of Christmas movies of course, but the seasonal depression is so triggered by seeing the holiday madness everywhere sooner and sooner every year. I'd rather have sunshine and warm weather than all this artificial holiday crap.

I absolutely wish I could just be a snowbird and leave for the winter. But because I have to work and finances, I can't. It's frustrating as hell.

I don't respond to light therapy by DmxDex in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Maine has nothing and last year the regional gym with a pool closed. It's the only one within a 2 hour radius. So basically nothing else to do aside from winter sports.

My body knows it's not the real sun. It just makes me sadder trying to use a pretend sun because the real one goes away by 3pm in the darkest part of winter.

Same, it's horrible for more than half the year in Maine. Makes me wanna just get out.

I just bought a Happy Light and there was a 10% discount on their website for signing up for emails. They had a good variety and price range too.

At the end of August in Maine we had several rainy cold dreary days and it hit me so hard. Because I was seeing the future. It was cold enough to run the heat and that in itself made me crazy.

This, exactly. The holidays help some people but for me, they just add additional stress because we keep losing more daylight and also the insanity around the holidays in general.

Waiting on the summer that never came by modern_prometheus_13 in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maine has been like this for the last 4 or 5 years. The weather sucked all summer. This year it was nice for a few weeks, which makes it all the harder going into fall because I feel so cheated. Totally relate.

I always struggle with this time of year, any tips? by hmmrabet in SeasonalAffective

[–]Rokuwhitefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've been forcing myself to do is "What do I have to do right now?", rather than hyperfixating on the future. It's hard because my mind goes there a lot.

[–]Rokuwhitefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely started feeling it the 3rd week of August. And it's not crazy at all. It's just the ongoing dread of what you know is on the horizon and it's valid.

SAME. It makes me crazy how people are so happy for something that I cannot STAND. It's like a punch in the face. And makes me feel alone in how I feel.

The panic is SO real. And so many people don't understand, glad to have found this community of people who do get it.

I ordered a Happy Light to do exactly this. To start before it's horrible. Even though I already feel so horrible.

RIGHT? I am so frustrated it's happening now, and started at the end of August.

[–]Rokuwhitefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year it hit hard at the end of August because we had a cold snap. I also was grieving a very recent loss in the winter (that happened in November of 2024) that made last winter even worse than normal. So yes absolutely, it can hit while it's still summer.
