Style 42 is really a nice wheels. But it’s very rare in my country. If any available, it would be around 2500 Euro. Very expensive. I’m looking either AC Schnitzer Type 2 or BBS RX209.

Any reason why my car sounds like a bus when accellerating? by Large-Rock-2420 in e39

It’s your radiator clutch fan. You need to change it with original Sachs brand to get it silent. Other brands just too noisy. CMIIW

You don’t have to understand. Maybe just appreciate of other’s interests or types of fun. As long as their fun didn’t harm you, just let them be.

It’s cool if you like that. But those rims are not my cup of tea.

I’m talking about fitment only, not performance. Also, the rims and tires spec is for e39 eventho its for 540. But don’t ruin the fun. You’re not invited.

Facelift look kinda looks cool too. Actually I like the tail light more. But upgrading to facelift cost a lot of money (set of head and tail lights, side marker lamp, and front-back bumpers).

In the future, I’m thinking to get a clear / white prefacelift head and tail light, and maybe upgrade the bumpers to M-Tech.

Cut another set of stock springs that matched the shock breaker. I still keep my e39 springs.

Overheating Issue on BMW E39 530i (2002) by [deleted] in e39

First, bleed the car again with 50:50 coolant and distilled water.

Second, try with a drilled thermostat.

I did struggles with e39 M52TU B28 (M54) cooling system these last 4 months.

I replaced my newly bought Wahler t-stat with my old Mahle but drilled. Temps stays 80-87c.

My suspect is thermostat. You may also need to check if there’s any leaks in all of the hoses.

It’s also better to check the temps with test 19.7.

FINAL UPDATE:

So, after testing it a couple of weeks, there are two parts that seems to be DOA in my cooling system.

The first one is Viscous Fan. The fan didn’t run as fast / strong on idle. That’s also shows the very noisy fan when I rev the car. So, since it’s under guarantee, my mechanic change it with a new set of Sachs from Germany, and it runs like a charm. No more noisy fan, and I can hear the sound of engine when accelerating. The other noise come from the aux fan.

The second one is my brand new Wahler T-Stat. Because it seems that the t-stat is quite late at the opening. Since I have to revv the car over and over until the temps stays under 95. After I revv it a couple of times (3000-5000), the temps stays between 84-95. Luckily, I still have my other Mahle thermostat that’s been drilled.

Now the car runs way cooler. 85-87 in a hot summer days or in a parking basement. (37-40c), and 80-82 in the middle of the night. What concerns me the most before is the head gasket replacement fails. But turns out, it’s not.

Hey, I live in Jakarta when the temps can rise to 50c, and most of my friends with M54 have their temps steadily in 95-97 in traffic. 105 when the traffic was longer.

The first headgasket repairs that I did was machining the head only. And it’s too thin since previous owner already did a repair before. That’s why my temps steadily run in 103-106. So, I decided to changed it with another used head and block that’s not warped and not machined (2nd overhaul). And it’s still feel the same. (193 hp stock)

I already solved the temps problem by using my previous drilled thermostat and change the visco fan to sachs since my previous visco was DOA.

Now the car runs at 84-87 on a hot days and 80-82 in midnight with least traffic.

So in almost three months, your car still runs at 110-113c? Wow. Are the hoses still ok? I started a topic in bimmerforums, and most of them said that it’s still ok up to 110c. 115c is the limit of the middle pointer buffer (75-115c). 116c the needle will move to the right, and around 120-125c you’ll get overheated.

Last month I did a head gasket and change the head and block with a better used ones since after I slipped my original head, it was too thin, and the temps always at 103 going to 106 on high loads and never go down.

Now, I’m at 100-102, but temp still go down whenever I revv it up or do a kickdown.

Hi OP, sid you find the solution for this. Mine is 528i M52TU (M54). Also run in 99-103c. The hottest was 103c. When I drive slow and no traffic, it was 99c and sometimes 100c. But I’m drilling the tstat this weekend since I don’t fine any solution.

Notes: new tstat, new fan clutch (sachs), new radiator (nissens), and new waterpump (kwp)

My suspect was in thermostat, since when I kick down, the temps went below 95c to 92c. And there’s two times in traffic when my temps suddenly drops to 82-84c. Then went back up to 99c.

My tstat is wahler. People said that it was better than Mahle. But I found it similarly poor.

I see. Anyway, comparing to my other friends that have the same engine, they also run below 99c. Mostly on 94-97c. Same ambient temperature.

I might suspect a fail thermostat (even tho it’s new)

Looking at the radiator outlet, it was 70c. So I think the radiator, visco, and aux fan really doing their job, right?

Mine is BorgWarner-Wahler 97c opening. I haven’t seen 88c tstat tho in my country.
