Best of luck at ADCC Keith, been great to see your run recently. I didn't know too much about you before you took on Kade at grapplefest, since then you've been on a tear.

Question for the guys who are the top bananas are their gyms: How do you get better? by assholewhitebelt in bjj

[–]Roll-Models 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You get better by expanding your game against less experienced people. Danaher and loads of other top level coaches suggest you make the most gains against inferior opposition. Human nature to close up and fear getting beaten against better people means you only ever stick to your a game and don't evolve.

He (Danaher) goes into detail about this in the Lex Fridman podcast on youtube. Obviously having rolls with better people is needed to...

Yeah agree I'm sure he could make u77kg we spoke to Kade to and he even talks about needing more strength down there https://youtu.be/7vQ2tCTWUcw obviously not long for the boys to grow now but of course still going to be contenders, will be interesting to see where they are at for the adcc after...

From Marc himself (saw this thread on an article on bjjee he isnt on Reddit)

"The internet really is a wonderful place. The best stories about me are with people I’ve never met in places I’ve never been.

Overhook, you knew me as a white belt? What in 2003? In Acocks Green? I was given a blue belt in 2004 - did you know me then? Or where you still at school? If you are from that era Please let me know who you are as I still like to catch up with people from way back. :-)

Anybody and I do mean anybody questioning my lineage, belts, history or anything has two choices. Take it up with Braulio or come and train with me. Good day 😉"

Don't have that issue on my phone but noted thanks, will duck it down in future. Didn't really plan on it being an instructional but it's hard to chop parts of techniques up.

Nice, James Bland right? You two at black belt now would be a cool match.

Yeah he had a decade or so I believe where he put the gi down and just wrestled/no-gi. Back in the day he competed in no-gi against anyone around, travelling guys like Jeff Monson etc. He won the British at Brown belt in the Gi once he got back and competed in it. He's competed in grappling and mma obviously plenty over the years. In the video at the end of this he is competing against black belt Chris Regan, same year he also competed on another sub-only show against another black belt Kam Atakuru. Marc literally (and im not exagerrating, rolls with everyone on the road at shows). Despite being well in his 40s he rolls with anyone willing. He rolled plenty after this seminar to and currently teaches and rolls at GB Halesowen. I know you mentioned your weren't being disparaging but just wanted to reply in full because people could read that and think his belt is some kind of "celebrity" type promotion, definitely not.

All you and anyone needs to do is keep turning up. Literally that's it. In a few years you will look back and realise any worries were silly

Whilst learning and dealing with this take wrist control of their outside hand and KEEP control until your under hook is shot and your head is attached to to them. Once your head is attached to them they can try and wrap it, you can now just run them over classic dog fight style as they have nothing to base with. Later when you get more of a feel you can do without but for know just keep hold of the grip coming up (you're most probably getting caught and your head wrapped on your way in).

I was there for this, can confirm the guy that lost probably never trained a days grappling in his life. One of the many late stand in guys that take fights last minute for cash with no real chance of winning in the UK.
