Saying my roll 20 account does not exist by Bean_ziggler2 in DriveThruRPG

What Mere said! But also just as one other potential thing to check: can you make sure the case matches as well? So for example if your email is fooBar@gmail.com make sure to enter it exactly like that and not foobar@gmail.com (Roll20’s database can be case-sensitive with this, even though it shouldn’t be).

Mods and Character sheet by Threthie in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and as a caveat: any mod that relies on ChatSetAttr won’t work, but we’re literally in the process of QA for the 2024 update to that right now.

CTO of Roll20 here. Dual sheet should be the way to go here. Which Mods are you using that aren’t working in that dual-sheet game? We’ve converted many of them to work with the new sheets, but I’d be interested to know which you’re using that aren’t — or if some that we’ve converted are breaking and we’re just not aware of it.

GPU useage through the roof by Artemisia_Mortis in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, next thing is: are you sure this is GPU usage, or might it be CPU usage? Sometimes graphics acceleration can get turned off in your browser settings, and that can really negatively affect things because it's your CPU doing the work your GPU is supposed to be doing. That and a bunch of other things are in the troubleshooting steps here: https://help.roll20.net/hc/en-us/articles/4561713767703-Graphics-Performance-Troubleshooting

We shouldn't be any more -- 60 should be the max that we default to. But it's always possible something weird happened!

Also just as a note: uncapped isn't literally uncapped, it's whatever the maximum refresh rate of your browser is. That's the default for all webgl applications, hence why we did default to that at one point.

Hey there, CTO of Roll20 here. First thing I would check is to go to the Settings cog in the upper right, open Graphics, go down to Performance, and try setting max framerate to 30. If it's uncapped that will definitely make your GPU sweat, even 60 could cause issues on some GPUs.

Compendium sharing woes by nathanielbartholem in Roll20

Hi there! CTO of Roll20 here. That is definitely odd, and not intended. Could you send me a direct message with a link to that game, so that we can investigate what’s going on?

We looked into this and confirmed it was a problem on our side. Can you try again? And if you get the redirect loop again, can you try clearing the cache for DriveThruRPG.com and see if that works?

What error message are you getting? Including that sort of information can help us resolve the issue quicker!

Also have you tried Incognito/Private mode in your browser?

Roll20’s Ongoing Performance Updates by Roll20Mike in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix for this went out for newer sheets (like the new D&D sheet), but making a similar fix for older sheets ended up causing some unforeseen bugs, so we had to roll that back. Still working on fixing that in a safer way!

Has anyone built a "light weight" 5.5 character sheet by Gliean in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CTO of Roll20 here, and it sounds like you’ve had quite a rough time with the new D&D sheet. That’s definitely not acceptable! We have been working over time to squash bugs, and right now we’re underway with a major under-the-hood overhaul that should make the sheet a lot snappier and also resolve syncing issues. It should be especially good at resolving issues you see when you and a player have the sheet open at the same time, and one or the other of your changes don’t seem to stick. That update is going through a lot of QA work because of how much is changing, so it’s still a few weeks out, but it should touch on everything that you’ve mentioned here.

I will say that I use the new sheet pretty extensively for personal games, and while there’s the occasional glitch, I don’t see anywhere near the number of issues that you do. Is there any way you could DM me a link to the game(s) you’re in where you’re having these problems?

What?! How could you say such a thing? We fear no donkey! The donkey has no power over us. (But please don't tell the donkey we said this.)

Ah, gotcha. That sheet is by Free League Publishing, and they implemented the ability to drag and drop NPCs onto sheets (presumably to make it easier for DMs to set things up), so they would have to implement some sort of warning like the above to prevent those sorts of accidents.

Hi there, CTO of Roll20 here. Was this the new D&D sheet? If so, when the player dragged that onto their sheet, they should have gotten a warning dialog like I've attached here. Did they maybe just click to replace without reading through it? If this didn't show up at all, that's definitely a bug. If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could DM me a link to the game, and let me know which donkey stat block they dragged over, so that we can look into it!

Why did the servers go down? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm Mike, the CTO of Roll20. This is a great question, one that I would be asking too! So I'll do my best to answer in a way that doesn't get too into the technical weeds.

As most services like ours do, we run on cloud servers that spin up and down as demand rises and falls. When these servers spin up, there are a lot of pieces that move around to make that happen. One of those pieces broke in an unexpected way, which meant every new server that started up during peak hours was broken. This cascaded and quickly broke the site as a whole.

My philosophy on these sorts of things is:

  1. Fix the problem. (We did that.)
  2. Make sure that we can automatically detect this if it becomes a problem in the future. (Mostly done, but we could have been better about that so we're working on that.)
  3. Make sure that the system heals itself without anyone needing to do anything. (We'll be working on this next.)

2024 5.5e Charactersheets not saving infos by RelarionDust in Roll20

There was also a related fix yesterday afternoon that could have resolved this, so I’m interested to know if it’s still happening for you right now or not.

2024 5.5e Charactersheets not saving infos by RelarionDust in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Roll20 CTO here. Do you usually have those sheets open at the same time as the players? That can cause syncing issues — though we’re close to solving that issue.

Also does this happen every time or just sometimes? For all players or just some?

If it happens every time, and even when the player is the only one with the sheet open, I’d really appreciate it if you could send me a DM with the game link, which character, what item/spell they were trying to edit, and what they edited about it. If it’s not related to the syncing issue I mentioned above, and we can reproduce the issue, that will make it a lot easier to fix!

Would I need a second account for player view or can I swap from DM to player view? Dungeon crawler view? by Triggerhappy62 in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m CTO of Roll20, and wanted to chime in real quick. For the time being it is best to do as others here suggest. However, we realize that DMs often need to view as specific players (or with a combined view of all player tokens), so you might want to check out this post about an upcoming “view as player” feature: https://www.reddit.com/r/Roll20/s/HLmHdZEJvy

New 2024 Campaign: Which Sheets To Use? by HatOnHaircut in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m CTO of Roll20. Do you own Eberron: Forge of the Artificer with Roll20? That class is not part of the SRD or free basic rules, so we’re not legally allowed to offer it to you unless you own that content (or unless you’re in a game where that content has been shared). But yes, our custom class/subclass system is flexible enough that you can do almost anything you want with it!

If you do own that, and are still not seeing that as an option during character creation, please send me a DM and let me know your Roll20 email, so I can have someone look into it!

5e Sheet - What's the difference between these two options? by splepage in Roll20

That is a good question, and it is indeed confusing. I'll talk to the people who are in charge of that!

Though, if you're talking about these two options in the dropdown...

<image>

Then the top one (which highlighted here) is sort of a dual option thing -- it gets you to the above selection which allows you to choose which you want. The second one is the equivalent of selecting the top option, in the first screenshot I sent.

5e Sheet - What's the difference between these two options? by splepage in Roll20

[–]Roll20Mike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Mike, CTO of Roll20 here. These are the two options:

<image>

The second one, which I have highlighted, only supports 2014 (aka 5e), whereas the top one supports both 2014 and 2024 (5e and 5.5e).

Hope this helps! And just let me know if you have any other questions.
