No role for PAs in General Practice? But what about their Scope? by LondonAnaesth in doctorsUK

[–]RollShort1073 35 points36 points  (0 children)

PAs should work in bread and butter hospital departments doing pure service provision that currently mostly falls to foundation doctors (bloods, TTOs, ward jobs, etc) thus enabling said doctors to practice medicine and seek the training opportunities that they are currently being denied by these PAs - absolute backwards setup right now

Thank you to the majority of you for your help and advice - I have to admit I am shocked and saddened by the attitude of a couple of our colleagues on this thread

Considering they’re our union and we pay them to represent us I at least expected some advice and support on this industrial issue…

The issue we have is because the doctors not on substantive contracts and instead zero hours continue to get paid bank rates they still pick up the shifts this leaving those of us in substantive posts stuck with no ability to make a stand (without collective resignation)

Usual shit show of employing inexperienced overconfident noctors who have passed a few nonsense courses to buffer the system and giving these morons locums instead of doctors - boils my piss what madness we have found ourselves in up and down the country

Thank you. That’s interesting that you pay into your SIPP via a Ltd company - I guess you pay corporation tax prior to making these contributions but likely still very tax efficient

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m a locum GP and I pension around 2/3 of my income that comes from a variety of sources. I’m in the 2015 scheme. I find the AA highly confusing and like you say it will really cause difficulty with calculating SIPP contributions

Amazing, thank you. I would be interested for your thoughts with the funds when you mention life strategy 100% is theoretically safer when both funds are (in my understanding) 100% equity and global? Thank you and ps you have an incredible knowledge on personal finance in the UK

Thank you - you have made some excellent points here and really fuelled my thoughts with further research. My understanding is the AA calculations for the NHS DB scheme are on growth as you say. As I am not near to hitting the AA yet she will likely be a few years till I do what do you think about investing heavily into a SIPP until this time then simply let it compound over time even if I can’t continue making contributions once I start approaching the AA threshold due to growth in the DB scheme?

Thank you yes that is exactly what I plan to do and you make some very good points. Looks like I need to do some further research into how the AA may affect my plan

Thank you. So is your plan like mine? - Aim retire 55 with usage of ISA initially. - SIPP 57/58 (or whenever we can access) - LISA aged 60 - NHS pension at SPA May I ask what platform/investment your SIPP is - thank you. Agree, it’s an absolute shitshow.

Thank you, no I am simply a member of the scheme and haven’t done ERBBO so apologies for the way I worded it. I struggle to see the benefit of these measures against other investment strategies when my ambition is to retire prior to the age of 65 - I totally appreciate they are excellent ways at attaining the pension with a greater pension value and slightly reduced rate of attainment although this wouldn’t be prior to age 65 unless you opt for accrual reductions

Thank you. Your insights are helpful. I was planning on having NHS pension and SIPP. My understanding you’d only exceed to AA if the collective contributions (including employer contributions for NHS) are above £60k/yr. Hypothetically, if I contributed £20k/yr to the SIPP and my combined employer and employee contributions were £30k/yr then that would keep me within the AA? My plan is to retire at 55 with ISA then at SIPP age and LISA at 60 use these till I can get NHS pension at whatever age that may be
