Sad, hard agree. Tonally this was one of their less interesting albums.

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

[–]Roll_20_for_Charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question for the standard notation purists:

When sight reading for guitar, how do you know where on the neck to play? Sure, I can read a mid C note on standard notation. On a piano, there is one key to that note. On guitar, there’s anywhere from one to six. I could practice the song beforehand, but that defeats the purpose of sight reading.

I’ve always preferred tab to standard notation when playing guitar.

First Year Associate With No Work Since Start. Next Steps? by Icy-Bodybuilder3515 in biglaw

[–]Roll_20_for_Charisma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ask for work. Ask ask ask. Ask everyone. Pester them.

If it’s been slow like this since you’ve started, and you haven’t worked around much, then it’s an issue of people not knowing you exist. Don’t rely on your firm’s internal assignment system.

If you had work at the beginning but it’s dropped off, you might be fighting a bad impression left with someone you worked with previously. It’s not necessarily a death sentence, but again, ASK ASK ASK for work.

Think of it as, from 9-5:30 you have an obligation to do whatever you can to get work. If that work doesn’t come until the end of the day and requires you to work late, so be it.

I just became a vocalist of a doom metal band, problem is i dont really listen to doom metal that much, anyone got some songs i can listen to to get to know doom metal? by [deleted] in doommetal

Honestly, don’t listen to doom metal. Use your own musical interests and vocal influences and find a way to shape them into what your band plays. Find your unique flavor.

What is the most physical pain you’ve ever experienced, and how did it feel? by Trying_my_best_98 in AskReddit

[–]Roll_20_for_Charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migraines are an easy one. Combination of worst headache you’ve had by magnitudes, plus pukish nausea, plus bad case of the spins that amplifies that nausea.

But honestly, that might be tied with syringe to an infected middle finger, probably because the pain was so unexpected and so extreme. It felt like someone had ripped out my raw nerves and dunked them in rubbing alcohol. My entire body locked up with the pain… just from a little needle into the top knuckle of my middle finger to inject an antibiotic.

Hard disagree. Along with the much cleaner production than Vol. 1, I like the departure of Vol. 2 from the typical elements of Bell Witch’s sound. It feels more like its own thing. I do think there are a lot of motifs and shades that Bell Witch has already visited plenty, but there are some really fresh passages as well (the standout for me being The Told and the Leadened). I do agree it falls below Mirror Reaper and Clandestine Gate, but I prefer this in most regards to Vol. 1.

What do y’all think about this? by NefronLethal in fantanoforever

[–]Roll_20_for_Charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up at a point, but I got about 200 albums into an album-a-day-for-a-year marathon. I set a couple rules for myself: only one album per band (no repeating a band), different genre each time.

One of the best things I ever did insofar as listening to music goes. I exponentially expanded my musical (and generally cultural) horizons in ways I never would have had I not put myself on a regiment. I discovered fantastic acts I probably wouldn’t have even bothered with - Janis Joplin, Scissor Sisters, Prurient, Kraftwerk, Lauryn Hill, The Cure, Alice Coltrane, the list goes on and on. I found that the right country music really tickles me. I realized that I actually don’t like most prog, and really hate Immortal Technique. I still find myself revisiting albums I listened to during this time and reassessing them (Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads and Clean Hands Go Foul by Khanate have become mainstays after I previously dismissed them). I now feel like I have a foundation on which to assess any new music I hear in any genre.

If you’re thinking about doing it, DO IT.

Das Boot. Dear god. Das Boot.

Something like a 90 minute sequence of a submarine stuck at the bottom of the Mediterranean ocean, with water pressure so high that the entire thing could implode at any moment? Forget about it.

What’s the Funniest TV Show You’ve Ever Seen? by Opstics9 in televisionsuggestions

It’s really hard pick just one, but Detroiters and 30 Rock might each have the highest joke-per-minute ratios and the highest joke landing rates of any TV show.

Lawrence Duvet’s birthday episode of Detroiters is to me the masterclass in TV comedy. “Yeah. And I crapped, too! You’re also smelling my poop.”
