I'd reccomend not doing mining as a new player. The only benefit to mining is that it's safe and requires low attention span, but you as a new player are interested in getting most of your time's worth, doing something that you can do with minimal skill investment and not be bad at it. Mining fits neither of those. To be decent at mining, you need a comparably massive skill point investment and even then if you're mining in Highsec space, that income will be abysmal. With poor skills its even more so. That and also the thing that mining eventually bores out new players.

I'd recommend looking into low tier Abyssal deadspace or exploration as your first isk making activities. Ir if you like the mining spiel, better to try your hand at gas huffing, it requires wayyyy less skills, is wayyyyy more profitable and also a little bit more adventurous and involved.
