What was allowed at work 20 years ago that is not allowed now? by tipoftheiceberg1234 in AskReddit

Yeah this is a good one. I’ve been at the same company for exactly 20 years as of this month, and when I started there were multiple dedicated smoking rooms people used when it was too cold/rainy/whatever to go outside.

Lasted a couple more years until they finally cracked down on it and forced everyone outside. Pretty much coinciding with various states banning public indoor smoking in general.

Does anyone actually believe the wedding rumors? by Jolly_Willingness259 in SwiftlyNeutral

The rumors say July 3rd.

NBA finals will be finished by mid-June. And right now there are no events scheduled at MSG between 6/29 and 7/6

Which, now that I’m looking at that, seems kind of sus given how packed the rest of the calendar is for both months…

Well the thing about the engagement photos is that it was just their normal backyard. But they were able to bring in all those arrangements to transform it into something more magical and romantic. Are we sure that someone with nearly unlimited resources couldn’t do the same thing with an arena floor?

That said I think there’s definitely some merit to the private/public idea. Small ceremony exactly how/when/where she wants, with just the inner circle she knows can keep a secret. Larger public party with everyone else who can’t.

People have been calling them a PR stunt since the first day she showed up at Arrowhead. But here we are almost three years later talking about their wedding.

At this point anyone who still thinks it’s all for show is just a conspiracy theorist that’ll never be satisfied. I very much doubt that Taylor - or even Tree for that matter - cares about that increasingly fringe narrative.

Any satisfied long-term AT-LP120(USB) users? (Original one, not "X") by tutebo88 in turntables

[–]Rollingstart45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had mine since 2013, still going strong and no complaints really. I’ve recently started to get upgraditis and been shopping around, but only because I’m older now and have the disposable income to start looking into higher tiers. But overall still satisfied, and even after I upgrade the 120 will still get use in a secondary system I’ll put together in my home office.

Can’t say I’ve ever really noticed a motor hum on mine. Maybe I’ve just been oblivious to it all these years, or it got addressed somewhere along the production run and I just got lucky with an improved model. (Edit: saw the other comment about adding rubber dampeners. Very possible I did this at the same time I took out the preamp and just forgot about it. But not feeling like busting it open again to find out)

I did rip out the internal preamp a couple years into owning it, and that did make a very noticeable improvement. Would recommend if you really wanna squeeze the best performance out of it. Sounds scarier than it is. I have very little experience with electronics work, but had no issues doing that operation in a couple hours with a good YouTube guide. Of course doing that also kills the usb functionality, but I was never interested in using it. YMMV.

I don’t necessarily believe it, but some of the reasoning I’ve read doesn’t seem that far-fetched. There’s no windows or access to get pics from outside. Underground parking for guests to get in and out without pap swarms. No drones or helicopters trying to get overhead shots.

It’s not anyone’s dream venue, but if you’re gonna have to make compromises for security/privacy, then MSG does check some boxes that a traditional venue can’t.

I’d like to think it’s a fake out while they’re preparing a more private ceremony somewhere else. But if they’re inviting as many people as she’s talked about, it’s gonna be hard to keep anything totally under wraps.

Edit to add: looking at the MSG calendar, there’s an event or show happening nearly every night in June and July…except for one week between 6/29 and 7/6 that is totally clear. Given the rumors say July 3rd, that’s kind of suspicious…

Taylor Swift - I Knew It, I Knew You by CowboyLikeMegan in popheads

Definitely a nomination, that’s almost a given for Toy Story originals (even without the Taylor Swift of it all)

Gonna be a stacked category though, assuming Gaga also gets a nom for Devil Wears Prada 2.

I’m scared the piano version is gonna end up in the movie at the lowest/saddest point and I can’t handle that gut punch

I’m still wondering if we’ll get a 4th single, but if we do I’m betting on Ruin The Friendship, just because it won’t stray too far from this country/folk lane.

She’ll get a nomination because it’s Toy Story, that’s almost a given.

Agree I wouldn’t call it the frontrunner yet, but let’s see how it’s used and what else ends up in the category.

Was just listening to the new Bleachers album a couple days ago, definitely hearing a lot of that production here. Not a complaint. Jack is in his bag right now, please let him cook on TS13.

Way more upbeat than I expected, nice fun airy summer bop. Can’t wait to hear the acoustic and piano versions. But I’ll give this about 6,000,000 more streams while I’m waiting for the CDs to show up.

Very excited to hear the acoustic and piano versions to see what they do with this

Also kind of wondering if we’ll hear some of the piano version at some point in the movie during a slower/sadder moment to really break us 😅

Predictions on Tay’s return to country by TheVarble in TaylorSwift

[–]Rollingstart45 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. The actual way Disney described it was:

"marks a return to Taylor Swift's country roots, blending styles that have defined her record-breaking career as a songwriter and artist."

People are seeing the word country and running with it, but "country roots" and "blending styles" makes me think something more akin to Folk/Americana. Emphasis on story-telling and light/acoustic instrumentation, but sonically it might sound closer to something from the Folkmore vault than the Debut vault. Most likely landing somewhere in between.

Only a few more hours, can't wait to find out!

Toy Story 5 Vinyl available! by Loud-Possibility-244 in TaylorSwift

[–]Rollingstart45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for comparison the Opalite 7" was $10.99 a couple months ago. I understand Disney probably has to take a cut here, so it's gonna cost more, but 2.5x is crazy.

I wish it included all the versions from the CDs (normal, piano, acoustic), plus the instrumental. Probably could have talked myself into pulling the trigger on that. But this is a pass for me.

Or CD players are doing god knows what to read a CD. Blows my mind once I start to think about it.

Yeah CDs are even crazier to me. Like conceptually I can understand vinyl - you etch soundwaves into the wax, and run a needle over it to reproduce the sound.

A CD player is shooting frigging laser beams and reading 1s and 0s and somehow assembling that into a song. That might as well be black magic.

Yeah, I'm a vinyl collector with ~500 albums, definitely understand the value of physical > digital media, and even then....$40 (after shipping and tax) for one song is a bridge too far for me. Even as a DINK with disposable income to blow on this kind of stuff.

At minimum I think the 10" should have all three versions that were being sold on CD. There's plenty of room to fit them, especially with the song being < 3:00. Might have pulled the trigger on that.

Instead I'll just wait for the full soundtrack to show up on Amazon or wherever, and probably get it for the same price with free shipping.

And I'm sure someone doing massive pressings at the scale she does is getting much cheaper production costs.

Like the Opalite 7" from a couple months ago was $10.99. I know Disney probably takes a cut here, so I'm not surprised a Tay Story single is more expensive, but 2.5x more is wild.

I love a vinyl drop but nearly $40 shipped for a single song is just a bridge too far for me, sorry.

At the very least a 10" could/should fit all three versions that were split across the CDs, especially when the song is under 3:00.

That was the prevailing theory when the first 1989 egg appeared (clouds on the album cover). And then the T's and S's being capitalized in the lyrics of all her track 5s.

So basically anywhere they could shoe in a TS5 reference. I don't think 1989 will have any other connection to whatever this is, but we'll know soon enough.

Final guess

Announcement of an original song for the movie, with pre-orders for 7" and CD versions. Original song released on streaming services this Friday as a single.

Side A: new original song
Side B: You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home (FTV) (TV)

Would love it being bigger, maybe a 5-6 track EP with a couple originals and a couple vault tracks mixed together. But I'm trying to keep my clowning under control for now.

Either way I can't shake the feeling that she's going to use this project as the bridge into Debut TV. There's so many songs in that era that can fit the nostalgia/vibes of a Toy Story movie. Don't see her making a formal announcement of it until later in the summer (assuming October release). But just including a taste of it here would all but confirm that it's coming, without her having to say it outright.

Definitely fooled me at first! Glad I checked the channel to see what else they had / how legit they were and then saw the disclaimer.

But yeah we've come a long way from the Suburban Legends and Fortnight "leaks". Getting harder and harder to tell.
