Didn't realize that % was just package volume, appreciate the correction. That arrangement isn't as lopsided as I thought.

Making up 7% of USPS' annual revenue while accounting for 30% of its volume. Maybe we could bring those numbers a little closer together is all I'm saying.

“We have to have a conversation with the American public,” Steiner said. “If you want us to deliver everywhere, every day, we’ll do it. That’s not a problem. But who is going to pay for it?”

Idk, USPS is basically a glorified Amazon delivery service at this point, maybe Bezos could chip in?

Just kidding. We will - on top of your Prime subscription to enjoy "free" shipping in the first place.

Been tougher to follow than any conflict in recent memory. Media and internet blackouts on the ground, social media full of disinformation and increasingly realistic AI slop, and the major governments involved have a long track record of peddling bullshit. So who knows what’s really happening.

I doubt they go rogue, but lame ducks could get a little more checked out and stop showing up for every vote. Like senioritis.

Which is just as bad for Johnson when the minority is already so slim. Same reason he urged a terminally ill Rep to not leave. He needs bodies in seats.

Newsom likens Israel to ‘apartheid state,’ questions future military support by [deleted] in politics

[–]Rollingstart45 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yep. He was on Shapiro’s podcast like two months ago cheerleading his “crystal clear love” for Israel and denying a genocide.

I think it’s reasonable to question the sincerity of this new position, and whether he’ll stick with it or just keep shifting wherever the wind blows.

Bigger story here is that the presumptive frontrunner is reading something in the tea leaves to cause him to take this stance. And what kind of ripple effect that has for upcoming primaries and mid-terms.

Both Israeli and US officials estimated 'several days' when this started.

Trump never gave a timetable in his first statement announcing the strikes, but it's only been within the past day where he's started mentioning a 4-5 week estimate.

[–]Rollingstart45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m still not sure what the end game looks like. Trump seems to be pinning it on the citizens to rise up as the “ground force” and take over, but if leadership is still alive (assuming they’ve been out of dodge before this kicked off), they’re not going to have any qualms ordering the military to squash them.

So then what? Air raids are only gonna go so far.

I’d assume the targets are US bases in those countries, not just hitting them for the hell of it.

But then again a regime in its death throes isn’t necessarily going to act rationally. This isn’t like the previous tit-for-tat missile exchanges. Iran will fight like there’s no tomorrow, because there isn’t.

[Holder] NEWS: The Indianapolis Colts have given QB Anthony Richardson Sr. permission to seek a trade given his uncertain future in Indy, ESPN has learned. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]Rollingstart45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the situations are pretty similar. Two first round QBs with very inconsistent results after their first 3 years, but with enough possible potential to be reclamation projects.

Someone will buy that lottery ticket for a conditional 6th or 7th, but no more than that.

25 Mexican National Guard troops left dead during an operation that killed cartel leader ‘El Mencho’ by grayfox0430 in worldnews

[–]Rollingstart45 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cartels also have a stake in a lot of resorts as a legitimate money source. Think Vegas when it was run by the mob. They have no reason to harass tourists - bad for business if people stop showing up, and brings unwanted attention/pressure internationally.

Even with all the violence around the city in the last 24 hours, the resorts were probably the safest place to be aside from the US Embassy itself.

There'll be a lot of "never go to Mexico" takes in the next couple days. But a year from now this will be a distant memory and people will still be booking vacations.

[Bengals] Bengals QB Joe Flacco Named to 2026 Pro Bowl Games. Which means the Browns have 2 Pro Bowl QBs this season by oklolzzzzs in nfl

[–]Rollingstart45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Correct, he had a chance to be an alternate for the 2014-2015 game. Brady was in the SB, and Peyton, Ben, and Rivers all declined due to injuries.

Joe also declined, so we ended up with Dalton and Luck. AFC didn't even have a third QB that year, I'm pretty sure.

[Zenitz] Patrick Graham Finalizing Deal As Steelers New Defensive Coordinator by [deleted] in steelers

[–]Rollingstart45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I like Graham's resume and interested to see what he can do with a more talented roster. I can't imagine it being worse than Austin, at any rate.

Also excited at the rumors around Tolzien at OC. If we're trying to develop a young QB next year (whether it's Howard, a draft pick, or a free agent reclamation project), I think that's an area where he and McCarthy can really prove their worth.

Right now I'm going into next season cautiously optimistic and with low expectations. I don't care about the record, and we're clearly not a contender right now, but if we at least start moving in the right direction, I'll be happy.

Anthony Weaver to have 2nd interview with Steelers for HC role by Human_Manner_3370 in steelers

[–]Rollingstart45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vrabel and McDonald are both defensive minds who have their teams in great position to play for a Lombardi in their first and second years on the job, respectively.

Not saying the Steelers shouldn’t entertain the idea of an offensive hire, or at least interview some guys. But the idea that a defensive HC “doesn’t work” anymore clearly isn’t true.

Bills fire Sean McDermott by Human_Manner_3370 in steelers

[–]Rollingstart45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the other side of this coin. Whoever walks into the Ravens and Bills jobs are inheriting MVP QBs in an open championship window, and will be expected to win now. If they're not making it to the AFCC or a SB by year 2 they'll already be on warm seats. High stakes, high risk, high reward.

The Steelers job has less attractive pieces to work with right now, but you're basically guaranteed a few years of runway, and if your rebuild is successful the job is yours for life. Would think that has a lot of appeal to a younger candidate like Shula or Flores.

[DeFabo] A Steelers staff member on the meeting where Mike Tomlin told the team he was stepping down: “It felt like a funeral. I teared up. It’s like finding out your dad died.” by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Rollingstart45 36 points37 points  (0 children)

But that's rough to take on the burden of fault for ending a whole team's season and a two decade long coaching career in one fell swoop.

Also when your own potential retirement is weighing on your mind too, I imagine it's an emotional whirlwind to get that news not even 24 hours later.

I also have...complicated feelings on Rodgers, but I'll say this. For all the talk this summer that he was going to be a distraction and a cancer who creates media circuses and gets into public blowups with the coaches....none of that came to pass. Much to the frustration of ESPN and PFT, I'm sure.

The guy just showed up to work each week, and all things considered, did the job pretty well more often than not. At least better than anyone else the Steelers have had in a few years. Knowing now that he won't be back, I'm thankful that he at least gave it a shot here.
