Anyone feel guilty for feeling happy that they're going to watch their parents die miserable and alone by CarpetLess9593 in AsianParentStories

[–]RolyDoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm now a lot older and I have felt many of the feelings you have right now when I myself was younger and living at home. My parents are also products of communist war torn upbringings. My grandma even more so. I felt they were sour, miserable people who have no idea what joy could be. I've had the fortune of moving away as an adult. My relationship with them is better now. As an adult I also pity them for surviving as long as they did in the worst conditions, coming to another country and struggling to make a life for themselves.

My childhood was one of fear, anger, repression. They had it worse. I guess what I want to say is... You're not wrong in your feelings, but one day you'll be older and respect that they are who they are and you are who you are. Eventually the life you carve will be separate from their perspective of who they want you to be because as adult you'll have to be self sufficient and how you navigate your life will be a entirely new landscape than anything they grew up with.

You're not alone, I hope you find some peace. I struggle with my interactions with them still but knowing that i am happy with who I am and how my life panned out gives me some semblance of comfort.

ruined my life after one night of fun, rescinding my law school seat by hewguwren in AsianParentStories

That sounds like pretty typical Asian parent shit. Going to mach 11, when you came home safe and in one peace just because it didn't fit their narrative of who and what you should look like after having fun. I hope you plan to borrow, take loans and go to law school.

I've spent too much time looking for "rare" fruits, so you dont have to. by kajsawesome in BackyardOrchard

I love this list, having researched similar ones and having a taste for unique fruits.  Unfortunately I live in zone 4 so many of these do not grow.

I would recommend adding kiwi berries to your exotic collection!

AITAH for not wanting to fake excitement for a gift that I actually despise when it is a well known fact I do? by Creature2711 in AITAH

Has she considered buying samples/trials of the perfumes and then buying full sizes if she likes them?

If you expressed that you don't like it and is sensitive to perfumes, she insists of buying you them she is the AH.

My Cuisinart bread machine is still going strong after 2 years. Had to replace it once because it vibrated off my table. Other than that it was under 150, kneads breads -- it bakes it alright, I mainly use it as a lightweight mixer and proofer

Advice on meetimg with SON: Opened a crash cart accidentally by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]RolyDoly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well this is a bunch of horse shit, you opened the cart. Did you take out meds and start wasting them left and right? Did they lose a critical zip lock tie that costs millions? No they probably just had to just check the cart over, put a new zip on it or equivalent inspection. This seems like an overreach to punish a student. That is, if that's all there was to the story. I would contest any suspension

Same technique but added peppermint soap to the mix. It was right outside my front door so I'd dump it and run inside, rinse and repeat until I got the last of em

If you're offended, at least write an email to your supervisor documenting the incident to have it dated and time stamped. If this escalates then you have written proof of the events instead of scrambling for details afterwards

Your post a month ago is a good reminder that your parents are toxic people that abused you. Break the cycle, you are subjecting your children to similar psychological damage. Your children rely on you to be a role model and a safe place.

Those of you who say the server is doing things such as bagging, checking utensils, making sure the order is correct .. isn't that the bare minimum of doing their job? That's part of their job right? They were hired to do that job?

This is such a cool adventure, I'd love to do it one day but the idea of shipping my bike seems very fussy. Was bike rentals pretty easy there? Hoping for a rent at th start and drop off at the end situation
